(AP - Ottawa) There is a lot to talk about concerning this game so let's give you a general outlook.
We simply managed to dominate in every aspect of the game. Our opponent was Jason MacDonald and the Wild Things. Jay pitched a solid game under normal circumstances...on any night his pitching would have been more than enough to put us under. But his defense was not 100% reliable, and we DID manage to hit him hard at times. Hrycak got us started out with a frozen rope pulled over the rightfield fence for a solo-shot with one out in the first.
Skip to the third where Hrycak led off with a double, Dan hit him over to third with a single, then Glazer took first base on a beautiful bunt after Dan had stolen second, scoring Hryak. Amos then knocked in Robert with a hit, and O'Grady collected a couple RBIs right after, giving the Rogues a 5-0 lead, and they never looked back.
Seb was simply astonishing on the mound. He pulled the string perfectly when called upon, and simply gave them pitches they couldn't get a handle on. 19 Really frustrated their batters.
After scoring a run in the 4th, The Rogues went up to the plate in the fifth inning looking for blood. And they certainly found some. They scored 6 more runs in the bottom of the fifth, before the ump called the game.
So this is where things get interesting: "Baseball Etiquette". Something to think about. Wild Things, whether or not they were just frustrated that the worst team beat them soundly...were angry towards our team for allegedly running up the score. Case and point, a bunt in the last inning to bring in an extra run with one out. A generally meaningless run in the longrun, but hold on...
Now the Wild Things were angry that we were just simply trying to run up the score, and to a degree they have a point. There's a common rule in baseball where simply running up the score is regarded as being a bad sport. And I tend to agree with that.
However, last night I was calling for "No Mercy" on the bats, and I don't feel sorry for that. For that player to bunt in the fifth inning...I would have him do it again in a second, for the following reason: We were chasing The Cougars and The Stingers for 8th place in the division. If we manage to score more runs total at the end of the year, but are tied (wins) then we would get the advantage, having scored more runs, AND having the season series advantage. In this particular instance, scoring as many runs as possible in this situation was DEFINITELY a necessity.
Unfortunately, after the game we discovered that both teams (Cougars / Stingers) had won their respective games, clinching last place for us. Had we known that, perhaps we wouldn't have been as aggressive.
It's an interesting situation to be in, but I find it funny that we've been losing all year, and when we finally win a game convincingly, using GOOD baseball technique, we somehow come under fire. It's our FOURTH win. So to sum it up, we've got to games left, and like I said before...NO Mercy...(Look below for team photo...)
