(AP - Ottawa) Where the hell was this 14 games ago???
The Rogues showed up and put on a fastball clinic for the first time in almost 2 years. Every batter in the lineup got at least one hit. We stole 5 bases in the first inning. And the troops rallied around Seb Soucy to bring home win #2 on the season, in what can only be described as a huge turning point.
Seb started the game by walking a batter and then giving up a triple. When the ball was brought back into the infield, cut-off man Calve grabbed the ball, and suddenly launched it towards Seb who was looking at first. The ball hit him square in the face, denting his glasses, and creating a noticeable lump. But he was not cut, and was able to go on...and didn't walk a batter for the rest of the game!
The defense was impecible. Aside from some slight rust from newcomer Hayes at third (Which isn't a lot of rust, he DID make some great plays...) The defense was perfect. Calve made 5 plays at 2nd, O'Grady made a couple beauties at short, and the outfield got almost everything in the air.
The real story of the night was how the bats came alive. Dan Robert parked 2 homeruns, the first of which...a 3 run job...is still landing. Sim Calve hit a solid double, and Seb Soucy hit a monster 2-baser to the warning track. Kevin O'Grady got a solid hit up the middle, as well as a near-perfect bunt, which was only flawedbecause he was called out at first on a CLOSE play.
All of this and the base ump was clearly having a bad night, calling 3 guys out on VERY close plays...especially Dan's slide into second where he was safe but the ump didn't have the angle, or when O'Grady bunted and the first baseman's foot was a foot off the bag.
But those are just minor things that don't really bother us, especially on a night like this. We've got some games left in us yet, it's gonna be a very interesting last few games...
