Superb defense won us this game, hands down. And smart aggressive base running, timely pitching and some good at bats helped us along..

By Matt Cox #5

Matt Cox was voted player of the game by his teammates. He pitched 6 1/3 innings, striking out 5 and walking one. (Not including beaning Rick Monette). But he had a team behind him that made almost no errors and stood tall.

(AP - Ottawa) We've got 3 more games, and then the playoffs. Seb, Martin Glazer and Cox each have one more game to start, against The Wild Things, Cougars and The Big Red Machine.

But let's talk about this game. Martin Soucy started behind the plate for the second time this year, and after launching it into the outfield on one play in the first, he settled in and was awesome. He threw out a well placed bunt down to first, as well as blocking several pitches that were low.

The infield was the best I've seen all year, with Sim Calvé and Kevin O'Grady make several nice snags off short-hops, and back handed stabs. The outfield was very reliable as well, although Amos and Seb weren't tremendously busy out there. But just having good defensemen out in the field like that goes a long way in helping a teams confidence.

The Rogues ran the bases like a team possessed, and even attempted a steal at home. The base ump had some mud in his eye on a couple plays, but regardless, the team held strong and didn't let it get them down.

The bats weren't as powerful as they have been before, but we found a lot of ways to get on base. O'Grady and Seb particularily hit the ball well.

Cox had his best outting of the year on the mound, striking out 5 Cougars and walking one batter. He pulled himself in the top of the seventh after getting an out but allowing 3 base runners. Seb Soucy came in and got the next 2 batters to pop out and ground out to end the game. Seb gets credit for the save of a lifetime.

So we finally seem to be back on track, and a good a time as any, since the playoffs are right around the corner. Our game against Big Red has been rescheduled to 6:00PM Monday August 6th, since the team hadn't been properly informed of the date change. 3 More games could very easily be 3 wins...and we'd be tied for points with The Stingers and Cougars. The second half has been very interesting...and the playoffs should be even better...(Look below for team photo...)
