(AP - Ottawa) Too bad James Street Feed...fed...off of pitcher Matt Cox. With a hand ful of walks and some solid hitting, James Street was an offensive powerhouse, getting a lot of seeing-eye hits, line drives and a 3 run homer.
Cox pitched the first 3 and 2/3 before pulling himself and bringing in Martin Glazer. Glazer pitched the rest of that innings and the entire next one before the game was over. Cox had an average outting with maybe 5 walks and quite a few hits, as the defense wa there to help him out. Glazer pitched well in relief, despite giving up 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th after Dan and SPARE Andrew Anderson left the game, thus leaving The Rogues with 2 outfielders.
Hitting well tonight were Dan Robert with a single and a double, Darren with a double and a run scored, and Cox and McNeil who broke out of their respective slumps with some solid singles. Chris Amos hit well in the number 2 spot in the line up by bring home Martin Soucy on 2 occasions for some RBIs.
Defense was damn awesome. O'Grady was Cal fricken Ripkin at short, stopped every ball, and made every throw to first. Robbie was his usual defensive rock at 3rd, making some great plays as well. Dan let an easy one get by him in left, but more than made up for it by suckering a guy at second base. After a guy hit a double, Dan pretended to lob the ball back in, but as the runner walked back to second after making the turn towards 3rd, Dan gunned it and picked him off! Quite brilliant.
On friday, the team will be short 4 players, unbelievably. Hrycak, Calve, Robert and Glazer are all unavailable to start, which means the Rogues will be relying on a spare to come out and play. It's a mystery as of right now who will be able to attend, but some rumours have been flying. Tune in...
In the meantime, The Rogues will be happy to take this offensive outburst into the next game and hopefully end the first half of the year on a high note with a win.
