ROGUES 0

Well, for the second time this season, The Rogues defeated someone. Of course, it was plain to see with errors, walks, and silent bats, that the team The Rogues beat, were themselves..

By Matt Cox #5

Martin Soucy is player of the game tonight. Thus far, arguably the MVP of the first half, Marty hit 2 doubles and stole a base. On a night where two doubles were exactly half of the offensive production, Marty was a shining light in an otherwise bleak game.

(AP - Ottawa) Although he did drop a ball at first base. A clean throw from O'Grady to get the out, as Soucy was thinking about throwing home for the double play, he accidently let the ball slip, and didn't catch it. This was to become a theme, as a similar play happened the following inning at home plate.

Errors were made elsewhere as well, but that was not the major problem. The major problem as always was the lack of batting. The EDC pitcher was not overpowering, but he put enough of a spin on the ball so's that if you didn't hit it hard enough, you'd pop it up, or hit it into the dirt. And almost every batter who made contact did just that. EDC had a walk in the park last night.

The pitching was a little off as well, as starting pitcher Seb Soucy struggled with the strike zone for the first couple innings, finally settling into a groove in the 3rd. In the fifth, Cox came in and had trouble finding the strike zone, and thus gave up a few walks. But bad pitching can be overcome with good bats. Once the bats come around, the pitchers are more confident. And vica Versa. If the pitchers are getting the outs, the batters seem to walk into the box with a different, more positive outlook. Something to think about anyways.

So, with pretty much everything working in EDC's favor, The Rogues played a bad game, and ended the first half of the year with a 1-9 record. Pretty sad. Some bright spots: First off - Kevin O'Grady. This guy has improved ten-fold this year. His arm is a strike to first base, and he dove like a bastard to stop balls...made throws from his knees and got damn dirty. If the rest of the team had the heart this guy has every game, we'd be doin pretty damn good. Darren is solidly improving as well, as he continues to get a beat on the ball, and is getting more comfortable in the outfield. With 9 days off to think about the season, and a game vs The Cougars to kick off the second half, The Rogues will be looking to make the second half of the year, the half to remember.
