(AP - Ottawa) It was freezing. Absolutely freezing on Wednesday night at 9:30 when The Rogues went up against their basement allies, the team from E.D.C. Tied at 0-3 in the standings, this game was all about turning the season around. Whoever got a win tonight would lose their unfortunate record and get out of the cellar, leaving the other team to dwell on what went so terribly wrong this season.
And guess who lost.
In the first inning, Dunbar got on with a bean ball (One of two hit-by-pitches Dunbar would suffer this night...) and Dar Robert followed up with a triple, scoring Ian to give The Rogues...THE LEAD!!!...1-0. That was the last run The Rogues would score. With an error per inning at least, and a few walks and a few more base hits by EDC...not to mention a three run homer...the snowball effect happened, and The Rogues lost 12-1.
Dan Robert started the game and after a long 1st inning, followed it up with a 2nd which wasn't too much better unfortunately. There were errors, a couple walks and some solid hits, and Dan was replaced by martin Glazer in the 3rd when it was 8-1. Glazer let in 4 more runs in the last 2 innings before the ump called the game in the fifth because of the mercy rule. Yes, the Rogues were Mercy-Ruled, by the second worst team in the league.
Coach Matt Cox has already begun the process of trying to recruit some fresh blood. He's e-mail and attempted to contact several possible ringers to come aboar and try to help the team out. No confirmations as of yet, but we'll keep you posted.
In the meantime, The Rogues have 6 days to think about the start of their season before going up against Big Red and Wild Things. Starting next Wednesday, The Rogues play 4 games in 8 days, against 4 very good teams. Big Red, Wild Things, Stingers and C.B.U. Publications. It's due or die time, as The Rogues have already played 20% of their season, and have nothing to show for it.
