Anime Synopsis

Part 1: Here Be Comets

    "ZEN UCHUU NO MINASAN!!!!" (People of the universe!)
    It's a happy day as after about a hundred* years of peace, the third Ginga Saikyou Butou Kai (Galactic Strongest Battle Competition) is about to begin! As human team mecha parade down the main road, aliens, monsters and humans pack the streets and giant stadium on Earth to see the event. The announcer now introduces "the strongest of the UltraWarriors...he has fought many opponents who have threatened the universe, the Super Fighter of justice...and there he is! Our hero!" A door opens and a very familiar Ultran runs in, jumps, does a SUPERB spin in mid-air and lands on the battle court, wearing very shiny blue and gold armour.
    "Fighter...ULTRAMAN!!!"
[The screen image becomes a 2-D manga-style version and the theme song plays. The background is now fiery swirls like Return of Ultraman or Ultraman Ace, with animated silhouettes of Ultrans and a few rivals. The last screen before the anime starts reads (in Japanese kanji and kana) 'Suisei Senjin Tsuifon toujou' or 'Comet Battle God TSUIFON appears'; this 'so-and-so monster appears' screen is standard for every Ultra series.]

Far from Earth, in the north of the Milky Way lies the Ultra Garrison's Pre-Battle Base. Here, Ultraman Jack, Ultraman Ace, Ultraman Taro, Ultraman Leo, Astra and Ace Killer S (don't ask what the S is for) armour up. They have a job to do! As they fly from the building off into space, Taro, who is leading, warns them to be on their guard as the Strange Comet Tsuifon is dangerous, the most powerful in the class of scarlet comets. With his usual spirited confidence, Ace says that it's OK, Tsuifon's just another comet; and he will 'clean Tsuifon up' with his new weapon, the Metallium Sword, which is part of his chest armour.

Ace	:	With a SPARK at that! Wah ha ha ha ha!!! becomes SD in that unusually USFL manga-like way
Ace Killer	:	Not surprised...He's his usual silly self.

We now learn that the 3rd GSWC is also celebrating Ultraman's return. The announcer introduces himself as Announcer Banjou and his counterpart as the monster loving, slightly crazy Professor Notani! Notani shoves a Baltan doll in his face, much to Banjou's chagrin. He also notes that Ultraman’s opponent for the finals, Demon Mefilas, isn't here yet...
Ultraman is not the only one there--the familiar monsters from the manga (armoured up) and UltraSeven (who isn't armoured up--yet) are also in the stadium. [Seven gets a PROPER mouth in the series instead of the immobile mouthpiece! :D] Suddenly, there is a bit of an uproar as a door begins to vibrate on its hinges.

Seven: Mefilas...Is he up to something?!

Light begins to shine through a gap in the door, and the energy eventually smashes the whole thing into tiny pieces. Choosing the dramatic entrance, a caped Mefilas runs in as Ultraman gets into a battle pose. The alien's blue eyes glow red, his cape ripping away from him as he runs into the battle arena. Mefilas gives Ultraman a punch to the chest, sending him flying into the wall. Luckily our hero manages to block the next punch. Banjou screams that Mefilas has gone mad again, and an electric field is set up around the court, just for safety...

Seven	:	Stop it, Mefilas! This is supposed to be a celebration for the humans! Are you trying to ruin it for them?!
Mefilas	:	Seven! If you want to fight me too I'll kill you! (Seven shuts up :P)
Ultraman	:	Mefilas...I am your opponent!
Mefilas	:	That's right. I didn’t come for a festival, I came to pound you flat! (punches Ultraman out of the wall and sends him flying into the electric field--obviously not as powerful as the one on Q-49.)** Celebration or whatever, I don't care! Defeating your opponent—that is the law of battle!

Ultraman narrowly manages to dodge Mefilas' blows and lands lightly on his feet. Seven can't take this any more, though, and rushes towards Ultraman to join in the fray. However...

Ultraman	:	Please take no hand in this, UltraSeven! This fight is between me and Mefilas!
Mefilas	:	Hmph, finally getting a bit serious, are you?
Ultraman	:	Let's go, Mefilas! (armband twinkles mysteriously)
Seven	:	Ultraman, could you be...?!
Ultraman	:	takes off armband Ultra Crown, form!

Ultraman places the armband on his forehead, and it neatly transforms into the cool piece of headgear called the Ultra Crown! Having done this, he has powered up into Super Fighter form! Banjou goes berserk again, expecting just desserts for the wild Mefilas. Seven tries to make dissuade Ultraman from this stratagem, saying it's too dangerous to use such high power, but Ultraman the fighter knows that all too well. There is no other way to stop Mefilas! The fight continues, punch to punch, beam to beam. Seven stares in the highest surprise...

    The UltraWarriors on patrol have found the strange comet Tsuifon. It’s huge! So much for Ace’s boast of cutting it into three. According to Jack, it came to the solar system once before, and will come again this year***—the Earth year 3026. Should this happen, Earth is doomed. Jack doesn’t really want to destroy this natural part of the universe, but Ace Killer sees things differently. He joins his halberd and shield into a bazooka and fires at the comet. However, the energy is absorbed and the comet keeps on coming!
    "Everyone, get out of the way!!"
    "Taro's transforming into the Super Fighter...!" begins Ace. And indeed he is; a veritable tornado of gold energy forms around him as his Ultra Horns grow large and sharp. Turning to his comrades, he tells them to brace for impact. Or something like that. As they retreat, Taro charges up and fires his weapon at Tsuifon.
    "Storium Ultra Light Wave!!!"
    A blazing burst of energy slams into the comet, exploding it in an instant. Jack muses Taro is indeed as strong as Ultraman himself. After the dust has cleared, a strange sphere is left behind...

Taro	:	Something's still over there.
Ace	:	Ah heck, don't scare us! Is'nt that just a fragment of the comet?
'Fragment'	:	TSUUUUIIIFOOOOONNNN!!! barrels towards Ace
Ace	:	Eh? (O_O;;) YAAARRGH!!! dodges

The spherical 'fragment' charges right at the Ultrans, and they all dodge quickly. It then opens up into a monstrous entity with a hard exoskeleton, arms like steak knives and an almost human mask--Comet Battle God Tsuifon! [Think Dorako on steroids if you've seen the original Ultraman.] Jack speculates it must have been living in the comet itself. Notwithstanding, Tsuifon proceeds to fire a blast of gold light from his body as way of warming up before cruelly striking Leo and Astra. Ace goes up against him, but despite the Ultran's best efforts his Metallium Sword shatters against Tsuifon's hard claw within two strikes! Tsuifon then slashes Ace's chest and charges the remaining three.

Ace Killer	:	What are you doing?! EAT THIS!!! (fires his halberd-shield bazooka)
Jack	:	Cinerama Breaster! [Despite what you might think, it's Jack's shoulder shields that open up and fire a mighty blue-white burst of energy]
Taro	:	Storium Ultra Light Wave!!!

The plan may have been good on anything else, but it backfires horribly! Tsuifon absorbs the energy, his claws growing. He uses a powerful purple energy wave on the three warriors which sends them flying (Taro's Ultra Horns revert to their normal size), returns to his travelling sphere form and leaves the Ultras unconscious in space. Taro watches him leave, and uses the last of his energy to project an Ultra Sign; 'Tsuifon is a lifeform!'
Zoffy and Ultra Father receive the Ultra Sign, and Zoffy wonders how Tsuifon could be so strong as to survive the combined attacks, let alone the Storium Ultra Light Wave. "What f that legend is true...?" muses Ultra Father. When Zoffy asks what legend, his commander tells him of a ‘living shooting star which advances while destroying the universe’. That is Tsuifon. And speaking of which...

Some recruit	:	Tsuifon's location has been discovered!
Zoffy	:	Where?!
Recruit	:	The place is--
Zoffy	:	What's the matter? Where is it?!
Recruit	:	T-the moon! The Earth's moon!
Zoffy	:	What?!
Ultra Father	:	frowns Too fast...
