Episode 3 - Trading Spaces

Last time, on Survivor Sweden…

After Aurora had been voted out at Tribal Council, Freya worried about the effects of the Delayed Departure twist.

*
"We just can't lose our immunity," Megs stated, "We gotta be positive!"
*
Aurora: I am VERY happy about the Delayed Departure twist, and I LOVE the fact I get to make a contribution to someone leaving this game…but I feel INCREDIBLY ripped off.

A shocking uneven switch occurred in the second week of the game, leaving the castaways stunned and putting the tribes back at 7-7.

“Give me your old buffs.” Cat smiled.
“Oh no…” Steven exclaimed, cringing painfully.
*
Holly: I am not sure if I like the switch at all. Me and Jamie switched tribes without our alliance mate Marion. So we're in the minority along with Jose, and it's scary cause I think they may try and gang up on us or something.
*

The new Idun tribe then barely lost immunity…

“Idun, your tribe climbed up 17 meters up the mountain,” Cat said, “or about 55 feet. Freya, you climbed 19 meters, or about 62 feet. Therefore, FREYA WINS IMMUNITY!”
*
Charles: No one can singly be blamed, and we only lost by two meters, so I’m not perturbed.

...and after numerous failed attempts on Steven and Ben’s part and a few betrayals, tribal lines held, and Ben became the second person voted out of Survivor Sweden, while Aurora finally left the game.

“Aurora, I’m sorry to say this,” Cat says, “But it is time for you to go home.”

Cat places the torch-snuffer over Aurora’s torch, putting it out for good. Aurora then exits the tribal council area, waving to the Idun tribe, no regrets left behind. However now, because of the games Delayed Departure twist, Ben returns to the game to get one final chance at revenge. How will he affect the game? Who will win immunity? What new twists await the players in this episode? And who will become the third person voted out of Vengeful Survivor: Sweden? All of this, and more, will be revealed, tonight!

Night 4 - Idun

As the Idun tribe returned to camp, Ben was clearly rather upset. Him and Steven were walking along silently, knowing they had been betrayed by the people they thought they could trust: Amber and Felipe.
*
Ben: I am mad about them lying to us, so at least one of them will pay…I’m going to try to get a bit of revenge…
*
Amber: Tribal Council could not have gone any better! Ben is out, and my alliance is still strong. I know I’m not going anywhere, and it feels great. Anyone could leave and I don’t care, just as long as it ain’t me.
*
The tribe soon returned to camp, at which point Ben decided to create a little bit of havoc.

“You know,” Ben yelled out loud to the group, “Earlier today before Tribal Council, Charles told me that he wanted to vote Maria out.”

Maria’s eyes widened, and Marion looked at Charles’s suspiciously, while Charles shot a glare over towards Ben.

“Ben, maybe the fact that I voted for you says something,” Charles stated.

Charles then went off, as others muttered in discussion about Ben’s action.
*
Marion: I trust Charles, but he seems off though.
*
Maria: I think Ben was rude after being voted off, but that is normal. It doesn't bother me that he’s voting at the next Tribal Council. I know that he is upset with me, and he is probably voting for me if we go, but that is understandable.
*
Charles: What got to me last night was that after Ben was voted off, he basically said in front of everyone else that I had told him a secret that no one else should've heard about. What actually happened was that I told him who might be vulnerable this time around, and I told him to keep it confidential. So he broke his word. It did make a few other Idun members suspicious, namely Marion, but I cleared it up. Ben was just trying to bring me down with him; it was stupid, and I'm here instead of him, so I'm not worried.
*

Soon, everyone on Idun had gone to sleep. They needed the energy to win immunity the next day, or would they?

Day 5 – Freya

On the morning of their fifth day in Sweden, the Freya tribe found theirselves sleeping in. Having won immunity, the group was feeling particularly comfortable.

Around 10 o’clock, Valerie rose from her tribe’s tent. She stepped outside into the snowy wonderland, and began to sit by the fire to warm herself. As she did, she began to think about last round’s early switch, and the bringing of the new members.

“I love my new tribe,” Valerie smiled to the camera, “It’s not as good as MY hand-picked Freya tribe, but almost. I mean, Jamie rocks, Jose is really sweet, and Holly is funny, what more could you ask for?”

She paused to think for a moment, looking deep into the fire’s flames, then said, “If we stay how we are though, I could see Holly going because she’s around the least it seems, and I really don’t feel like I’ve gotten to know her. But, I seriously doubt we’re staying this way anyways.”

Valerie then heard a rustling coming from the tent. She turned around to see Jamie, poking his head out from behind the tent’s flaps.

“Hey!” Jamie said, smiling at Valerie, “How are you?”
“I’m okay,” Valerie replied, “and you?”
“I’m doing alright, thanks.” Jamie said.

Jamie looked up into the sky, and saw how high the sun had already reached. It was getting later in the day.

“Do you think we should go check the treemail?” Jamie asked Valerie.
“Sure!” Valerie stated, “Let’s go do that.”

The two began to walk down the path to the treemail to see if anything new had arrived. As they walked, Jamie and Valerie began to talk to each other.
“You see to fit in Freya very well,” Valerie smiled.
“Thanks, that means a lot!” Jamie laughed, “At first I felt sort of like an outsider since the swap and all, but now I’m feeling a lot better since I’ve been able to chat with everyone just a bit.”
“I miss the people who switched over,” Valerie smiled, “But oh well. C’est la vie!”
“Yeah,” Jamie agreed.
“Besides, it’s just a game, not the rest of my life,” Valerie smirked.

The two walked on through the beautiful scenic landscape of Sweden for a little bit, talking some more.
“So what kind of music do you like?” Jamie asked.
“I listen to just about anything, except metal and country,” Valerie stated, “I have, like, a HUGE CD collection.”
“Me too,” Jamie smiled.
“My mom keeps threatening to quit giving me money because I always turn around and buy CDs,” Valerie laughed.
“Same,” Jamie laughed, “Most of my family just gave me gift certificates to Hastings for Christmas because they know where I’ll spend most of my money anyways.”
“I used to live 10 minutes away from Hastings,” Valerie stated, “but then they closed it right before I moved, so I got a bunch of CDs for a really cheap price.”
“The nearest Hastings where I live is about 40 minutes away,” Jamie laughed, “But I live in the middle of nowhere.”
“Hey, the middle of nowhere!” Valerie teased, “That’s exactly where I live!”

The two laughed again. Jamie looked at Valerie, and decided to take advantage of the opportunity.

“We seem to have a lot of the same interests,” Jamie said, “I was wondering if you would want to do a little, I’ll look out for you if you look out for me kind of deal?”
“Okay, sure!” Valerie smiled.
“Great!” Jamie exclaimed.
*
Jamie: Right now, I have an alliance with Holly & Marion. I have one with Holly & Jose from when we switched to Freya. Megs & I have a 'I've got your back, you've got mine' and I have the same type of "alliance" with Val. I have a lot of alliances!
*
Valerie: Jamie and I made an agreement to watch each other's backs. I feel secure, for now, so I'm just going to be a chameleon, forever changing to match my environment.
*

After their short hike, Jamie and Valerie finally reached the treemail, to find a message for another challenge.

We put to test
Your knowledge in
This barren place
To fight and win.

If you know of
Sweden’s great land
Immunity shall
Be in your hands!

Jamie and Valerie returned to camp to give them the news of the upcoming challenge.

Day 5 – Challenge Tundra

In the afternoon that day, both Idun and Freya arrived at the Challenge Tundra for their next immunity challenge. Set up on the Tundra were two computers with an internet connection, as well as a large bulletin board with 10 blank pieces of paper.

“Greetings survivors,” Cat said, “and welcome to your next immunity challenge! This challenge has been called, “Where Are We?”, and that is simply what you will be doing: trying to find out where you are.”

“On this bulletin board, there are 10 pictures from around Sweden, numbered 1 through 10,” Cat continued, “Each is taken from some place within or nearby a city or town in Sweden. You’ll have to match each picture from the town they are from. To help you, we have provided internet service. In addition, the pictures have been placed in alphabetical order by the town’s name, making it slightly easier for you to figure out where they are from.”

“After two hours of search,” Cat stated, “Whichever tribe has the most correct locations wins the challenge. Simple as that. Are there any questions?”

All 14 of the remaining players shook their heads.

“Alright, then time starts now!” Cat smiled, “Good luck!”

Cat then turned over the pictures one by one, revealing the places. Idun and Freya quickly got to work, trying to figure out the location of each picture.

On Idun, Charles instantly got to work, hopping on the computer and trying to find pictures. Soon, Felipe, Maria, and Steven all joined him. Marion and Amber stayed off to one sighed.

"We can vote out Steven if we lose," Marion whispered to Amber, smiling.
"Yeah I know!" Amber laughed, "We're okay either way."

Marion then went to help the rest out with the challenge some, while Amber stood off to one side, not helping at all.

“The challenge has everyone stressed out,” Amber whispered to the camera, “But I’m not because I’m not doing a thing to help. I just sit back and wait for people to mess up so they may get on the chopping block, even though Steven will be the next to go. Just as long as it’s not me,”

As the tribe continued to work, they began to realize that the challenge was not quite as easy as they thought.
*
Charles: This challenge was really hard. I'm a geography buff, I know most of Sweden's major cities, but to identify things within the city and to make sure everyone else knew it too was the hard part. Searching for the different statues and lakes and facilities within the cities was tough.
*

Meanwhile, Maria and Marion were busy looking over the pictures in the challenge, seeing if Maria could recognize any of the pictures from the time she spent in Sweden when she was younger.

“Can you figure any of these out, Mom?” Marion asked.
“Most of these are hard, I’ve never been to any of them,” Maria said, “I think that one of the ship is Gothenburg though.”
“Okay,” Marion said.

Marion then wrote down Gothenburg for picture #3. Maria closed her eyes, and sighed briefly.

“I’m sorry,” Maria said, stepping aside from the pictures, “My fever seems to be getting worse. I was throwing up early too…”
“My gosh!” Marion exclaimed, “I’m sorry, go ahead and stop. You should feel better.”
“No, I want to win!” Maria said, “I am trying so hard, and feel so horrible.”
“Well that’s your choice,” Marion said, “But you can stop. I am sure the tribe wouldn’t want to push you too hard.”

Maria then took a look at the pictures again, then said, “I think I know one of them…the last picture looks like the royal palace, and that is in Stockholm, but the area doesn’t seem to be Stockholm.”

Maria and Marion continued to work with each other, as Charles and Felipe were searching. Steven stood right next to them, looking over at Maria and Marion.

“Is Maria going to miss stuff cause she’s sick?” Steven asked eagerly.
“I don't know, but she just gave us like six places,” Charles stated, “She might miss some stuff though.”

Steven then fell silent, as Charles and Felipe continued to search. Steven sighed, waiting for the others and getting bored.

“I just realized something!” Steven exclaimed, “I’m the only one in this game so far who hasn’t won immunity!”
“Kudos to you, I guess,” Charles said, rolling his eyes slightly.
*
Charles: One thing I didn't like were people's attitudes towards the challenge, particularly Steven. He is the one who needs to save himself, you'd think he'd be happy to help in a challenge. But he just asked everyone else if they knew the answers, and he just kept saying "oh, the challenge is gay, I don't like it," like a little whiner. it got annoying, really, really quickly.
*
Steve: At the immunity challenge, all of our tribe did not work together to find the answers. Marion and I were really the only ones who did really.
*

Meanwhile, on Freya, Jose and Jamie had taken charge in the challenge. They had hopped onto the computer together, and began searching very quickly for the pictures. Kelley, Jon, and Megs looked over their shoulders, trying to see if they could spot anything while they searched. Valerie and Holly sat off to the side, not helping much at all.

“I think this one is number 4,” Jamie said, pointing to a picture.
“Where’s that from?” Jose asked.
Jamie checked the website, then said, “Karlstad.”
Jose quickly wrote the answer down.
*
Jon: The stars of that Immunity Challenge were Jose and Jamie. They were coming up with cities out the butt. I couldn't find a damn city, and I was searching for ages. The two of them, they get props from me for being able to find so many of those damn cities!
*

Finally, time was up. The two tribes regrouped for Cat to reveal the results. Ben stood between the two tribes, waiting awkwardly to see what would happen.

“The results have been tallied,” Cat said, “Freya, your final score was 7 out of the 10 were correct. Idun, your final score was…

…3 out of 10.”

Marion hung her head with a sigh.

“Congratulations Freya, you have won immunity!”

Freya began to celebrate, as the Idun tribe simply looked on, not saying a word. Cat smiled at both tribes, and waited for everyone to settle down.

“Now, with the challenge over, there is something else,” Cat stated, “I need each tribe to select three people who are original tribe member, meaning they had not been switched before. Those three people will be switched. You have 5 minutes to decide, starting now.”

On Idun, Marion, Amber, and Charles rushed to agree to be switched, as Felipe, Maria, and Steven agreed to it. On Freya, however, decisions were not quite as easy.

Jose, Jamie, Megs, Kelley, and Jon slipped off together to discuss the decision, without Valerie or Holly nearby.

“I think it should be me, Jon, and Kelley that goes,” Megs stated.
“I agree,” Jon added.
“I’d like to go too,” Kelley agreed.
“Why Kelley and not Valerie?” Jose asked.
Megs paused quietly, then said, “I don’t know.”
“Okay,” Jose laughed, “I don’t mind, I was just wondering,”

At this point, Valerie walked over to the group, trying to find out what was going on.

“Hey Valerie!” Jon smiled as she entered.
“Hi all,” Valerie stated.
“So, why don’t we vote to see which of you two switch,” Jon said, gesturing to Kelley and Valerie, “I’m personally voting for Kelley, no offense Val.”
“Me too,” Megs stated.
“I’m okay either way,” Jamie said, nodding his head.

Valerie looked suspiciously at her tribemates.

“Well guys,” Valerie then said, smiling, “I REAAAAAALLLLLLLY want to switch!!!”
“Well, we’re voting,” Megs told Valerie.
“I know, but can’t I make my voice be heard?” Valerie objected.
“Yes, you can,” Megs said politely.
“Well, if both of you want to switch,” Jose said, “Each of you could maybe say a little something as to why you want to switch?”
“Well, I want to switch because, this will sound really weird, but I want to stay with Megs!” Valerie smiled, begging a little, “I mean, I’d probably would want to switch anyways, but you know…”
Megs looked at Valerie weirdly, then asked, “Me?”
“Is there any other Megs on our tribe?” Valerie grinned beamingly at Megs.
“Why me? I’m a weird loser!” Megs laughed.
“Megs is not a loser,” Valerie said, continuing to smile proudly.

Kelley then decided to explain her reasons: “Like I said before, I've had a horrible beyond belief migraine today...and I feel bad because I let you guys down in helping out with the challenge today...and as much as I love you guys, I'm afraid that if I stay that will harm me, and I’d like a fresh start. I love you guys I want you all to know that, whether I stay or go.”
“Well, I guess I want to be with my hand-picked people,” Valerie said desperately, realizing she was not persuading Megs or Jon, “and that would mean switching, even if it means a different tribe name. I picked all of you originally for a reason!”
“That’s understandable,” Jamie agreed.
“Well we’re pushing it on time,” Jon said, “Lets vote! Everyone say who they’re going for the switch.”
“I vote for myself,” Valerie stated.
“I vote for me,” Kelley said.
“I say Kelley, sorry Val! You know I love you,” Jon added.
“I vote for Kelley, sorry Valerie,” Megs stated.

Everyone turned to look at Jamie and Jose, to see how they’d vote. Finally, Jose spoke up.

“I’m voting for Kelley,” Jose stated, “Sorry Valerie, but it had to be one of you and I just didn’t know who.”

Valerie stared at her tribemates in disbelief. Tears began to trickle down her phase.

“GUYS!” she yelled, crying, “I’m going to be without the people I chose!”
“I’m sure he’ll switch us again dear,” Kelley said, trying to comfort Valerie, “Nothing stays the same for long in this game,”
“But what if we lose Immunity again?” Valerie asked desperately.
“You’ll be okay,” Megs assured her, “You’re safe tonight anyways.

Valerie then tromped back over to Cat and the Idun tribe, tears still streaming down her face. Jon looked at Valerie, in disbelief at the scene she was making.
*
Jon: Of the people that were on Freya, I dislike Valerie the most. She has a VERY strong personality, and for me that's a big turnoff. I can see what she tries to do, whenever they ask me a question or whenever she says something. I can tell when Val's begging to move to a different tribe. I've lost a little respect for Valerie now. She was being very selfish while we were deciding who to switch, and I just found it to be nuts. But, I got my way tonight, and tomorrow at Tribal Council I know that myself, Megs or Kelley will be staying. The 3 of us are in a power position, where we can get rid of who we choose to get rid of.
*
Jose: I do feel kinda bad for Megs, Jon and Kelley to be going to the other tribe, but I'm pretty sure they'll be fine there. What I really feel bad about is that Val now got stuck with the complete opposite tribe she chose! She's the only Freya original left in Freya, and I know she's nervous about that. I don't like Val that much actually…She just doesn't seem that good of a leader. She didn't work that much on the last challenges, and then she was very pushing on getting her switched to the other tribe.
*

“Well, it has officially been decided,” Cat said, “That Marion, Charles, and Amber will be switching over from Idun to Freya, and Megs, Jon, and Kelley will be switching from Freya to Idun.”

Cat handed out the new buffs to the tribemates, and the 6 players switched sides. Valerie glared at Kelley, Jon, and Megs as they switched.

“With that said,” Cat stated, “You may all head back to your new camps! Good luck.”

The two new tribes returned to their new camps, unsure of what would happen next.

Day 5 – Freya

Not long after, the new Freya returned to camp. Amber, Charles, Holly, Jamie, Jose, Marion, and Valerie all entered, one by one, still a bit shocked from that round’s immunity challenge and twist.
*
Charles: I loved the after-immunity switch. Now I'm on a tribe where I'm in a very solid majority of 6 to 1 for people originally from Idun. Plus, the two people I least like from Idun, Felipe and Maria--more Felipe than Maria--are on the other tribe, and I don't have to suffer if they fail an immunity challenge.
*
Amber: We have switched tribes, and it’s great for me because we have half of the old Idun tribe here, and the only one left is Valerie. So she will be gone soon, and I’ll still be here!
*
Valerie: I hate the new twist. I'm the only f**king original Freya on here! GRRR!!!!!!!!! I found it SO d**n UNFAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I'm the only Freya left on here and the only one here who has even a semblance of loyalty to me is Jamie. Jamie rocks!
*

As the tribe got used to their new camp, alliance partners Jamie and Marion reunited for the first time in 3 rounds. The two began to talk strategically with one another.

“So, with all of this is over... there is one original Freya left on the tribe,” Jamie said, “Valerie, an easy boot, then me, you, and holly can vote three to three, and I'm sure someone else will side with us.”
”We still have the matter of past executees voting,” Marion said.
”Oh yes, true,” Jamie stated, “but I think we'll be okay though.”

Jamie looked at Marion and smiled, saying, “I'm so happy!”
”Us back together,” Marion winked, finishing his sentence.
”Yup!” Jamie exclaimed, “Now it’s me, you and Holly all the way!”
”Now if we can avoid switching until the merge,” Marion sighed.
”Yup,” Jamie laughed, “I feel sorry for the two who stayed on Idun though. They’re toast.”
”Well, I think Felipe wanted to vote out an Idun,” Marion said, “and Maria didn’t know much about Sweden for having been there. Besides, people have to go.”
”Yup,” Jamie said, agreeing again, “So if we go to Tribal Council, Valerie goes, right?”
“Yes,” Marion said, “She knows that happens if we go,”
”Yeah, I know, she's really upset,” Jamie stated.
”I gave her my plan about our side botching the challenge,” Marion said, “She doesn’t know I made it for Steven’s leaving already, just things changed.”

Jamie laughed, and the two friends smiled at each other. It was getting to be just like old times.
*
Jamie: I'm actually fairly happy about the switch, because now I'm with most of the Iduns that I started out with. If I make it to the end it will be good for me to have spent time with everyone. Valerie will have to be the one who goes if we go to Tribal Council though, because she is the only person who was not originally on Idun. It's already confirmed that she will be going when or if we go.
*
Valerie: If we go to Tribal Council again, I think I will end up going, because everyone else is from Idun. Tribal loyalty will hold over and I will be screwed over. Enough said.
*

Eventually, the tribe quieted down, and soon fell asleep.

Day 5 – Idun

As Idun arrived at camp, there was a mixture of emotions. Some were excited and happy to be reunited with Steven and Ben, while others were feeling low, sad about the day’s happenings, and losing tribe their friends.
*
Jon: That twist was a blessing in disguise; definitely a blessing. I'm now in the majority on Idun, which I find to be absolutely fantablous. It has given me more confidence, and confidence is an amazing thing to have in a game, especially when you have a reason to have it. Now that I'm truly in the majority on this tribe, I see myself making at least the merge, if not the jury.
*
Kelley: I wish the switch hadn't been so hectic. I felt bad that Val was so upset, she's such a sweetheart. I hate to see her like that. I'm hopefully relatively safe this time, but it doesn't mean much because you twist us so often. The switch hasn’t effected my strategy much though. I am still loyal to the people I were before. Whether they feel that way about me, I'm not sure, but it's good to find out.
*
Megs: Gah, I know that I seriously am upset with this constant change of tribes. I seriously wanted to pack Jose and Jamie in a suitcase and smuggle them over here! They were so hard working, and they were so nice, and I love talking to them.
*

Felipe sat off to one side on a log, his head hung in frustration.
*
Felipe: I'm really sad right now. I wasn’t waiting for the twist. In fact, the twist messed up my game. I was established on my tribe. Now the Freya tribe members are the majority in the Idun tribe, so that means I'll be leaving this great game soon.
*

On the other side of camp, Maria was tending to the fire, like she usually preferred to do on Freya. She was upset, and still sick, but trying to remain as positive as possible. But there was not much to be positive about…
*
Maria: I feel I lost the challenge for the tribe, because I am the one that spent time in Sweden and I didn't have the right information. I really don't know how to vote because I am the one that screwed up the challenge for the tribe, so I guess it should be me, and it is alright if they vote for me, because I do feel responsible.
*

That night, Steven gathered Felipe and Megs together to talk to them about the upcoming vote.

“I wanted to know, would you guys be willing to vote for Maria?” Steven asked, “She didn’t help out during the challenges.”
“Well, “I just want to make it clear,” Felipe blurted out, “that I know you guys are the majority and y’all will try to get rid of me and Maria first, but I just want to say to give me time to introduce my self to y’all.”
“Well, you have a day,” Megs said, “And who knows how long the tribes will stay like this!”
“But who do you all want to vote for?” Felipe stated, “Me or Maria?”
“Well, Maria,” Megs replied, “Because she’s been really quiet, and I’m going to assume she didn’t do much today.”
“Thanks for giving me a chance guys,” Felipe smiled, “I won’t disappoint you, but I do think Ben’s going to vote for me…”
“No, he’ll vote Maria,” Steven stated, “She is the reason he was voted out,”
“Kelley and Jon will go Maria most likely,” Megs said, “Don’t worry Felipe, you’re safe!”
“Thanks,” Felipe smiled, “I hope we can beat Freya then!”
*
Felipe: I have an alliance with Maria, but this wont last anymore cause I'll have to vote for her in order to stay in the game a couple more days.
*

Finally, everyone settled down to sleep. Tomorrow would bring the Tribal Council, and a day left to discuss it.

*Editor's Note: It should be mentioned, in the past we've used the "being sick" reason to replace the reasons of computer problems. However, in the cast of Maria, she actually *was* sick, with a fever over 100 degrees Farenhiet and had been throwing up. This was not something created for the game's storyline, it actually did happen.
