Fierce Dogs back
in the hunt.
By Nikki Tugwell.
With fierce endeavor Central District yesterday regained
its winning touch, outclassing bottom side Glenelg after
half time to savour a 40 point victory at Adelaide Oval.
Central which started the season in blistering form,
reconsolidated its spot at the top end of the SANFL
ladder having lost its past two matches - against Sturt
and Port Adelaide. It may not have been a world beating
performance nor a classic spectacle, but it was the tonic
desperately craved by the Bulldogs. A win.
"It didn't really woory me how it looked or what it
was like as long as we got the points... because
sometimes you just need a win," Central coach Peter
Jonas said. "It was important for us to bounce back
and show the endeavor at the ball and body we did and I
thought we were very good in that department."
The Bulldogs, without captain Daniel Hulm (injured) and
Brent Guerra (Power), after half-time ran rings around
the Tigers who earlier had managed to stay in the game by
caitolising on their opponents time-on lapses in the
first and second terms.
Glenelg, despite its indirect approaches to goal, found
scoring avenues early in David Hams and later through
Josh Pearce. Tigers ruckman Matthew Golding battled hard
all day and had a good contest with Radlee Moller, who
worked in tandem with starting ruckman Damien Arnold.

Central
was desperate to trap the ball in its forward line. Full
forward Sam McArdle was aggressive and Central worked
forward into open spaces with method -leading to numerous
opportunist goals. Many of these crumbs were converted by
the dangerous Stuart Dew lurking in the forward line and
helping himself to six goals for the day.
The Tigers, however, crept back into the lead at quarter
time, when Troy Hosking marked on the siren and goaled to
give his side a three-point advantage. In the second
term, Glenelg coach Tony McGuiness swung Damian Raidis on
to the Dog's early stand out Rick Macgowan - and
blanketed his influence for the rest of the game.
Just as Dew appeared to be leading a Central bid to break
open the game midway through the second quarter, the
Tigers again fought back with Hosking, Alistair Burke and
Matthew Shir all lively. Glenelg managed to dege back
within 13 points at half time.
"It was a pretty even first quarter and then late in
the first and second quarters we really came into the
game, but we weren't able to sustain theat level of
pressure all day," Glenelg coach Tony McGuiness
said.
"On the positive side from where we've been in the
past couple of weeks it's certainly a step in the right
direction and I'm hopeful with that level of effort we
can start to get our game together."
Central put it foot down in the third quarter to take a
strong hold on the outcome. Murray Hamblin, James Gowans
and Daniel Healy racked up possesions at will, while
Heath Hopgood rebounded well from half-back. It punished
Glenelg on the quick turnover and applied itself until
the final siren, to extend the margin to 40 points.
