I figger it's important that I lay out what I see as the roles and responsibilities o' you folks in me Militia. We do things looser than most groups, and I don't want folks bein' unsure about what I expect.

Lemme start with you troopers. You're the most important part o' this Militia. Afore old Toshiro asked me ta handle things, I was a trooper, so I know...troopers do everything fer us. All I ask o' you is that ya keep yer skills sharp, be ready when we need ya, and respect our chain' o command. Now that means yer sergeant in most cases, but it could be any other squad sergeant, our connie liason, or yer Captain. Ya troopers are the heart o' this Militia, and I'll treat ya that way.

Ya scouts are important too. Yer the only folks in the Militia that work on yer own a lot. Sometimes I'll need ya ta gather intelligence, others ta find a way through a swamp. I may even ask ya ta do special things, like infiltrate one o' our enemies. And when it all comes down to it, I need ya ta stand with the troopers and fight too. I ask a lot o' ya, and that's why ya report to the Captain or the Lieutenant. Now that don't mean that if a Sergeant needs ya that ya can tell him ta get lost. But yer scouts, yer experienced and I know ya can handle workin' on yer own. Yer the eyes and ears o' our Militia, and we depend a lot on ya.

Now you corporals and sergeants are wierd folks. Yer troopers, just like the rest of us, but ya've stepped up ta help run things. As a sergeant, yer in command o' yer squad, and ya report only ta the Captain or Lieutenant. When they ain't around, it's up ta you ta command yer squad as ya see fit. When they are around, yer gonna be workin' close with 'em, makin' sure yer squad is performin' as the commanders need it ta. And on top o' all that, it's up ta you ta keep yer squad ready fer whate'er comes our way. It's a tough job, and you corporals need ta help yer sarge with it. Ya need ta keep yer eye on everythin' the sarge and yer squad does, because if the sarge can't...ya guessed it, yer in command o' that squad.

We got a few specialists too, o' course. If yer one o' them, yer probably a locksmith, or a liason with the Constabulary, or mebbe a woodsman. It's real hard ta put a finger on how and when you'll be needed...but that's why yer specialists. Ya report ta the Captain and Lieutenant, and most o' what ya do will be with them, but I want ya assistin' troopers as needed.

It'd be foolish o' me ta not mention our healers right now. Our chief healer is on the command staff, reportin' ta the Captain and Lieutenant, and it's their job ta be sure that on them days that the troopers go ta battle, that we got our best chance ta bring everyone home. So they're gonna make sure all the Militia healers are sharp, and equipped fer the field. You healers'll need ta do everything from disinfectin' a cut ta dashin' inta a battle ta pull out wounded fer care...it's a tough job. Ya can count on the troopers ta keep ya safe. We count on you ta patch us up and keep us strong.

Now here's the trickiest job we got. Lieutenant. 2nd in command. In that role, yer gonna have ta be ready ta lead the Militia at a moment's notice. Yer gonna need ta keep yer eyes out for folks who can help us, and troopers that may be strayin' from our code o' conduct. Yer gonna bring folks in. Yer gonna boot folks that violate that code o' conduct. The responsibility o' leadin' the Militia falls on you, sometimes. Above all, ya gotta be ready and willin' ta advise the Captain, and try ta make sure that they know what they need to know. Ya represent the troopers to the Captain, and vice versa. It's a tough job, and mebbe our most important.

Heh, now the tough one. Bein' the Captain and ramblin' bout what I'm supposed ta do ain't the easiest thing. Here's what I figger, troopers. I'm gonna deal with them buggers in the Senate and that Guv'nor o' ours. I'll handle our dealin's with the Constabulary, the Legio, and our other allies. I'll be sure our enemies know better than ta mess with us. I'm gonna make sure I do all I can ta keep ya informed, and keep ya ready. I'm gonna bring good folks in, and make sure that if any trooper turns bad on us that they don't stick around long enough fer the smell ta stick. And I'm gonna command ya in the field, when we go ta fight off them Cinners, or drive a nest o' thieves outta Vetallun. Most of all, I'm gonna remember that you're volunteers, like meself, and I'm gonna respect the time and energy ya put inta our Militia. I'm gonna do all I can, and when I fall short, I'm gonna listen ta ya, trooper, chief, whoever.

We're gonna do good things. Carry on, troopers.

Captain Prion Abraxus
