New Shug Cubes February 28, 2001
By: Mystery
Haden Blackman, Content Supervisor, had a couple of things to say about the game:

“Will I be able to learn/train in the ways of the SITH?” - Rorschach_2000

It may be possible to obtain Sith artifacts that allow a player to learn specific Sith powers, but becoming a “Lord of the Sith” or “Sith Lord” will not be an option. There can only be two beings with that title at any time, and we already know who they are at this point in the timeline (Vader and the Emperor).

You can read the full post and the ensuing dialog here.

Full Figures back again February 28, 2001
By: Mystery
A while back, if you remember, the official human species page for the official site had a couple of full-figure images up there for a second, rather than the two head shots they eventually crowed about. Well, now they're back. A female and a male, to correspond with the head-shots, making 4 shots in all.

Small FAQ Update February 26, 2001
By: Mystery
There was a minor update to the SW:G FAQ on Friday. Here is what's been addressed:

6.12 Will I be able to build a Rebel or Imperial base?

Yes. Players of the appropriate faction will be able to establish bases, which will then behave just like any other Rebel or Imperial bases in the game, including attracting the attention of NPCs of the opposite faction.

From the Recent Developer’s Boards

2.09 My kids want to play Star Wars Galaxies. Will there be a profanity filter of some sort in the game?

A profanity filter will definitely be in the game. You will be able to decide whether to use it, what additional words go into it, as well as be able to password it so that it can be used as a parental control.

You can see the rest of the FAQ here.

Starved for SW:G information? Well, look no further than The official SW:G discussion boards, where following that link will take you to a massive post from Raph Koster himself. The post deals with the overall paradigm for the game, and why certain controversial decisions were made.

Sign the Petition February 21, 2001
By: Mystery
Can't stand that Verant has officially announced that you can't play Stormtroopers in the upcoming SW:G title? Well, make your voice heard in another one of those "guest-books masquerading as a petition."

New Species, and a Contest February 21, 2001
By: Mystery
The Official SW:G site has recently posted new pictures of a new species, The Rodian, as well as dropped information on a Contest: If you can guess the next species that they'll reveal, you'll enter a drawing to win 2 reference/behind the scenes CDs from the Star Wars movie series.

FAQ Update February 21, 2001
By: Mystery
The FAQ over at the Official SW:G site has been updated with the following content:

3.11 Will I be able to become a stormtrooper?

Unfortunately, the constraints of the Imperial hierarchy prohibit us from allowing players to actually become stormtroopers in the initial launch product. Service in the Empire would be very difficult to enforce; if we did allow stormtroopers, players would constantly be AWOL as they explored other aspects of the game. Rest assured, however, that players will be able to serve the Empire in many other ways.

From the Recent Developer’s Boards

3.12 How many species will be available for me to play?

We will feature eight playable species for the release of the game. We whittled down the long list to eight finalists, which will provide a great deal of diversity and balance to the game. We hope to add additional playable species with future products in the Star Wars Galaxies line.

4.14 Can I have a title like “Jedi Knight” or “Jedi Master”?

We're planning to include Jedi titles, like "Jedi Knight" and "Jedi Master" in the game. Dark Jedi would likely have the same titles as the regular Jedi (Dark Jedi Knight, Dark Jedi Master).

5.07 Will enemies be able to attack me through walls?

No, enemies will not be able to attack you through walls.

The full FAQ page can be found here.

Oops, SW: G Did it Again February 13, 2001
By: Mystyery
All props to Planet MMOG for tracking down and preserving mistaken releases of concept art for Humans and Wookies. If you take a look here, you'll notice that rather attractive feminine braid in the female wookie's beard. Damn, she's a hottie...

Letter from Kevin February 07, 2001
By: Mystery
A nice letter from the community manager, Kevin O'Hara, has appeared on the official SW:G website. It pretty much outlines what his job at Sony will be...which basically boils down to making us, the fans, happy..

FAQ Update January 29, 2001
By: Mystery
The F.A.Q. has been updated on the Official Star Wars: Galaxies Website. Here's a sample:

3.15 Will only the extremely lucky or hardcore players get to play Jedi?

We are not “pre-determining” whether a character can become a Jedi or not. Also, being “hardcore” is not a qualifier used in becoming a Jedi. Our system is designed to allow the casual player, as well as the hardcore player, the opportunity to become a Jedi.

Raph Speaks January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
Over on the Sony Station message boards, Raph Koster dropped a line to let us know a little more about the proposed update process for Star Wars:

Yes, there will be patches. And yes, we have to do this. Mostly because of content additions, to bring you even more of the game over time, which is standard practice in the MMO world.
