Clint Worley Interviewed January 24, 2001
By: Mystery
Clint Worley, producer for Verant's Soverein, a MM-RTS title, answered some questions in a short interview with Game Spy Daily. Here's a sample:

We wanted to introduce the game with a bang to let other companies in the industry know that Verant/Sony Online Entertainment is sticking to its charter with a new title. The main surprise wasn’t that we were doing another Massively Multiplayer game, or that it was persistent, it was that the game was the first Real Time Strategy game to feature those elements. The team is hard at work on the project and to be totally honest games of this size take longer to develop, test, and release due to the immense depth that they offer. Bare with us while we make history.

Always with the grandiose statements, these developers...

The editors at the Official Sovereign Homepage have been reading the the discussion boards again. Here's a sample of their breakdown of a recent discussion on micromanagement:

Fist_of_Iron: I would bet there will be a lot of back room chats going on during a game of Sovereign. Just like the stereotypical image of business men; old money who congregate in some stuffy club, drinking brandy and smoking cigars while they divide the world's money up between them.

I would certainly agree that these backroom chats are a necessary component. Although I'd personally like to avoid the cigars... But trading is certainly a way of promoting alliances and player cooperation, which is really what MMRTS is all about.
