New FAQ February 22, 2001

Danny Han updated the FAQ on the official Planetside site yesterday. Here's some of what he added:

What happens when you die?
Players will have the ability to choose where they respawn, although the length of time that must elapse before a respawn can be initiated has yet to be determined.

What if the enemy camps out at respawn points?
Multiple respawn locations will be available to minimize this problem. If all else fails, players will also be able to respawn at their Main Base which almost always will be safe from enemy attack.

New Development Diary February 07, 2001

The good folks over at VDE have posted the latest installment in their Planetside Development Diary series. Here's a sample:

From the perspective of a game designer on PlanetSide, I have to admit that the prospect of full FF damage is pretty scary. There are so many issues that need to be worked out for such a system to be effectively utilized as a game play element. As a design team, we’re looking forward to implementing an FF system that minimizes the negative aspects associated with friendly fire (i.e. grief players). But the challenge is ahead of us to try something different, on a scale never before seen, and that makes it exciting all at the same time. I hope that we’re able to walk away, just like Rainbow Six, with a genre in FPS gaming, this time set against the backdrop of a massively multiplayer game.

The Platside FAQ has been updated as of 1/24. Here's a sample of the information you can find there:

4.1 - How is PlanetSide persistent?
The balance of power between the opposing empires will constantly shift depending on the actions of players. Since everything happens in real-time, players will find worlds changing continuously as battles are fought. Players may also advance their characters through rank and other means.
