THE GARNET
presented by Modesty Blaze

Garnets are found in every color except blue.
There is the 'razzberry pink' rhodolite garnet,
the brilliant green tsavorite garnet,
the orange malaya garnet.
The bright red 'anthill' garnets are found
in Arizona, and are simply lovely.
In the old days, the Tsars of Russia
collected the rare green demantoid garnet.

Most people think of the garnet set in a
Victorian setting, for it was so popular during
Victorian times. The Queen herself had many.
They also make lovely pins.
Garnets may be cut and set in
a variety of ways.
Garnets are durable and brilliant
and last for years.
They are beautiful in rings for men too.
New bezel cuts are very popular.
Garnets are the accepted gemstone for the
second year of marriage.

Special Powers:
Garnets are said to be an antidote for snake bites
and food poisoning according to the Egyptians,
to have affinity with the blood.
They give the wearer guidance in the night,
and protection from nightmares.
Legend has it that Noah hung a big garnet
in the ark
for illumination.

Travelers often carry a small pouch of garnets
to help with digestion while in strange ports.
Garnet amulets if worn at night, prevent nightmares.
A garnet pendant is said to arouse passionate love...
Garnets may also allow wearers to see in the dark.

Garnets are found in
The United States, Africa, Sri Lanka,

"A woman without a ring is like
perfume without a scent"
maggieblue says that

~also~
"A ring without a stone has to be
heavy silver or gold, preferably gold..."
maggieblue says that too

~also~

Rings on the fingers,
rings on the toes...
but do not think
a ring in the nose.

A jewel in the nose might be nice
a diamond, sapphire, citrine
would suffice.

But pearls in the nose,
that's really a 'Tskkkkkkkkkkkkkk...'
Who has sniffed up a pearl
knows this is a risk!
maggieblue says that too

Au Revoir, Beloved.
