A small walkway next to a minor canal. This is, I think, my favorite picture of the trip. Even the simplest doors are embellished in some way, usually with a big giant head. Fancy masonry in Campo Maria Formosa. Aside from the beautiful colors, there is a small head enfolded in the wall just above the door.

I took this because I liked the look of the tiny, two-window building sandwiched between these two palozzi on the Grand Canal. It looks smashed. Another beautiful doorway. Brett took this one - beautiful arched windows are everywhere, and this one we got on a rare sunny day. You can see the flood platforms on the left side of this passageway. The first two days, the water was nearly over top of them, and all pedestrians scrambled on this flimsy planks to stay dry.

Plant life growing out of an old doorway. A walkway along the wharf at Not-Harry's-Bar. (See Local Life.)

One of Venice's unique funnel chimneys, on top of a crenellated home.

This is the entrance to the advocato's office (lawyer).

Beautiful iron bridge in the ghetto. A cistern in the ghetto. These dot most of the main campos, although they are no longer in use. Two small lions stare each other down over a large grilled door in Cannaregggio. The sun finally came out, one day, lighting up this beautiful side street in Cannareggio.
