Not much further on is the Pipemakers Park
footbridge, marking the turning point of this walk. |
The
approach is through a pleasant grove of native trees
lining each side of the path.
|
|
|
Crossing the bridge and
looking downstream to the right, we see the green
expanses of the Riverside Public Golf Course. |
At the end of the
bridge, we turn left, and pass the golf driving range.
You'll be glad to know the golf balls generally don't get
hit as far as the river!
This section
of the walk is in the suburb of Ascot Vale and is one of the less picturesque sections, with
the extensive flat playing fields of Fairbairn Park on
our right, and traffic and housing across the river on
our left.
|
As we approach the
Maribyrnong Road bridge, we pass another children's
playground, quite different in character from the other
playgrounds along the river. |
|
|
Near the
canoe club, the path turns away from the river and we go
through a car park area up to the pleasant residential
Woods Street, featuring mainly Edwardian weatherboard
cottages. |
Woods Street takes us to Maribyrnong Road,
where we can cross at the pedestrian lights and rejoin
the path along the river.
