Afton Street footbridge, Maribyrnong River, Essendon After we've crossed the bridge, we're in the suburb of Maribyrnong.  We go left from the foot of the bridge.

Unlike the other side of the river, there is no sealed walking / cycling path on this side (the western bank) until we get further on.

We can walk on the grassy river bank, where there is a footpad worn into the grass, or along the side of the road (Chifley Drive).

Riverside reserve, Maribyrnong River, Maribyrnong At this end of the path, we have the river on our left and open reserves with scattered groves of trees on our right. This is flood-prone land, and any land not already built on will probably be retained as public open space.
