In Chiang Mai, and the rest of Thailand for that matter, fresh fruit is everywhere you turn. Papaya, mango, pineapple, coconut, rambutan... the list just goes on and on. And fruit is the perfect refreshment after a fragrant, spicy meal of Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai, or a bright red, yellow or green curry. Of course, not all Thai food is quite that appealing...

 

A coconut stand--every city should have these.

 

A somewhat less appealing frog stand. Maybe it's just me.

 

Apparently these taste like French fries if you remove the legs and wings. I'm toying with starting a Québec-Thai fusion restaurant with grasshopper poutine as it's signature dish. Any investors out there?

 

When push comes to shove, this is the little guy I'd rather show up on my plate any day, in an aromatic, coconutty green curry.

 

And it sure would go down nicely with this fine Laotian snake whiskey.
