A Lahu Village

The first night of our trek, we stayed at a Lahu Village about a two hour walk from where the elephants dropped us (the lazy bums). We were well fed, treated to massages after dinner, and had the opportunity to buy lots of traditional crafts. The above notwithstanding, the village is primarily a farming community. The only buildings are traditional bamboo huts, and the place is crawling with domesticated pigs and chickens. The money that the few tourists who make it here bring into the village has allowed a few luxuries, like a TV and electricity for the school hut.

Our host's hut had all the usual amenities, including kitchenette.

An after dinner drink outside our hosts' hut.

Better than I've got at home <sniff>.
