Making Mochi

All year round we enjoy sweets made out of mochi--but mochi is an especially big deal during New Year's festivities. That's when you can find large groups of determined chefs huddled against the cold as they prepare the festive snack using a special recipe handed down through the generations. In case you want to try this at home, an illustrated version of the recipe follows:

1. Cook rice

2. Pound rice mercilessly

3. Get cute & cheap child labour to form the resulting paste into balls
