Our House

When Bonnie and I started working in the government offices in 1999, we moved into a house by a river in Sasaguri, a small town in the inaka (countryside) outside of Fukuoka.  By Japanese standards, our little house was quite large--and it even had a yard, a real rarity even in the inaka.  We had three Japanese style rooms (i.e. ones with tatami floors) and one large western style one.  Just to give a sense of just how vast our smallish yard is by local standards, I've included a picture of a neighbour's house below.  Their yard is too small to house their dogs, who prefer to perch on the roof to watch the oh-so-close trains go by.
