Yangshuo

Folks heading down the Li River generally get off in Yangshou.  The town definitely can be filed under the category 'cute' -- but far more interesting are the small villages and rice fields which surround it.  Imagine cycling through narrow valleys bordered by improbably shaped limestone mountains, carpeted with bright green rice fields, and dotted here and there with small clusters of old farmhouses and ancient crumbling walls.  You round a bend, and come across some water buffaloes lazily grazing by the road.  Beyond them, a gentle slope leads down to river which is just begging you to dive in.  Can you picture that? Good -- because we were to busy biking to take pictures of that part.  What follow are some pictures of Yangshuo itself.
