The Summer Palace

Understandably, the Emperor sometimes got tired of his 9,999 rooms and had to get away--and the Summer Palace was a great place to do just that. It's loaded with amazing structures (none of which are pictured here), and picturesque little walks along its person-made lake. I think this is the prettiest site in Beijing. It's far away from the city smog, but not so far that you don't get some neat lighting effects.

The Long Corridor--a wee walkway (about 700 meters) the Emperor and his pals used to escape the elements.

A beastie.

Another walkway along the lake--lighting compliments of local industry and car exhaust.
