Jerry
Yang - Chief Yahoo! and Director
Jerry Yang, a Taiwanese native raised in San Jose, Calif.,
co-created the Yahoo! Internet navigational guide (www.yahoo.com)
in April 1994 with David Filo and co-founded Yahoo! Inc. in April
1995. Yang, a leading force in the media industry, has been
instrumental in building Yahoo! into the world's most highly
trafficked Web site and one of the Internet's most recognized
brands. A member of Yahoo!'s board of directors, Yang works
closely with the company's president and CEO to develop corporate
business strategies and strategic partnerships and guide the
future direction of the company. Yang is currently on a leave of
absence from Stanford University's electrical engineering Ph.D.
program and holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering
from Stanford University.
David
Filo - Chief Yahoo!
David Filo, a native from Moss Bluff, La., co-created the Yahoo!
online guide in April 1994 with Jerry Yang and co-founded Yahoo!
Inc. in April 1995. Filo serves as a key technologist, directing
the technical operations behind the company's global network of
Web properties. He is credited with helping build Yahoo! into the
world's most highly trafficked Web site and one of the Internet's
most recognized brands. Filo is currently on a leave of absence
from Stanford University's electrical engineering Ph.D. program.
He holds a B.S. degree in computer engineering from Tulane
University and a M.S. degree in electrical engineering from
Stanford University.
Tim
Koogle - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Koogle ("TK") joined Yahoo! in mid-1995 as president and
CEO, and was named chairman in January 1999. With more than 14
years experience, Koogle was named one of "The Top 25
Executives of the Year" for 1998 by BusinessWeek. Under his
direction, Yahoo! has become a profitable, pre-eminent global Web
network, and has achieved several consecutive quarters of
increasing profitability and 1998 annual net revenues of
$203,270,000. Prior to Yahoo!, Koogle was president of Intermec
Corporation, a Seattle-based manufacturer of automated data
collection and data communications products, Where annual sales
increased nearly 50 percent to more than $300 million during his
three-year leadership. Prior to Intermec, Koogle spent nine years
with Motorola where he held a number of executive management
positions in operations and corporate venture capital. Koogle
holds B.S., M.S. and doctorate degrees in engineering from
Stanford University.
Jeffrey
Mallett - President and Chief Operating Officer
Mallett joined Yahoo! in 1995 as the executive responsible for
establishing, operating, and leading Yahoo!'s worldwide
organization including programming, editorial, engineering,
business development, planning, sales and marketing, and customer
service. He is recognized as being instrumental in taking Yahoo!
from a start-up to a pre-eminent global media company with 1998
annual revenues of $203,270,000. Mallett's has a successful 14
year track record in the consumer multimedia, software and
telecommunications industries. Prior to Yahoo!, he was vice
president and general manager of Novell's worldwide consumer
division. Before Novell Mallett was vice president and a founding
executive team member of Reference, which was acquired WordPerfect
Corp. in 1992. He was also was a founder and director of IPT
Corp., a private telecommunications company that was acquired by
Cable and Wireless in 1987.
Gary
Valenzuela - Senior V.P. of Finance & Administration and Chief
Financial Officer
Valenzuela has more than 18 years of experience in finance within
the high technology industry. Prior to joining Yahoo! in early
1996, Valenzuela was CFO, senior vice president of Finance &
Administration, and secretary of TGV Software, Inc. Previous to
TGV, he was senior vice president of Finance and Administration
for Pyramid Technology Corporation, where he managed the growth of
the business from $100 million to $250 million in annual revenue.
Valenzuela's career also includes executive positions at Wyse
Technology, Syntex Corporation and Peat, Marwick, Mitchell &
Co. Valenzuela is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a B.S.
degree in Business Administration and Accounting from San Jose
State University.
Farzad
Nazem - Senior V.P. of Product Development & Operations, Chief
Technical Officer
Nazem joined Yahoo! in early 1996 and as senior vice president of
engineering and surfing and was named chief technical officer in
January 1997. He is responsible for overseeing all areas of
engineering, including site operations and product development.
Nazem has more than 17 years of experience in executive and
technical positions. Prior to Yahoo!, he was vice president of
Oracle Corporation's Media and Web Server Division. Previously,
Nazem held various technical positions for SYDIS, Inc. and Rolm
Corporation. He holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from
California Polytechnic State University.
James
Nelson - Vice President, Finance
James was promoted to Vice President Finance, Chief Accounting
Officer in July 1997. Prior to that, James served as the Company's
Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer since February
1996. From 1990 to 1996, James was employed by Pyramid Technology
Corporation, a then-publicly held manufacturer of UNIX
minicomputers, where he last served as Vice President Finance.
From 1981 to 1990, James was employed by Ernst and Young LLP,
where he last served as Senior Manager. Mr. Nelson holds a B.S.
degree in Business Administration from San Jose State University,
and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of California.
John
Place - Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
John has served as the Company's General Counsel since January
1997 and as its Secretary since March 1997. Prior to joining the
Company, John was employed at Adobe Systems Incorporated, a
publisher of graphics and desk top publishing software products,
from 1992 to 1997, where he last served as Senior Corporate
Counsel. Mr. Place holds a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law
School, a B.S. degree in Economics from San Jose State University,
and is admitted to the California State Bar.
Anil
Singh - Senior Vice President, Sales
In his role at Yahoo! since 1995, Singh oversees advertising
sales, promotions, direct marketing, merchant programs and sales
operations for Yahoo! worldwide. Born in South Africa, Singh's
career has focused on technology sales. He has more than 11 years
experience in developing business sales operations for high-tech
startups and computer industry corporations in the personal
computing, networking and communication sectors. Prior to Yahoo!,
Singh was a vice president of sales for Socket Communications, a
mobile computing company, where he built domestic sales channels
and key OEM partnerships. Singh has also held executive sales
positions with Novell, Mountain and Acer, and Convergent
Technologies. He holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from the
University of London.
Timothy
Brady - Vice President, Production
Brady oversees production for Yahoo! properties worldwide. As
Yahoo!'s third employee, Brady initially played a key role in
successfully managing marketing, operation and business
development activities to launch Yahoo! commercially. Prior to
joining Yahoo!, Brady was with Motorola's Semiconductor Division
in Tokyo as product marketing manager of the 16-bit
microcontroller product line. In this role, he managed the
introduction of the product line in Japan, overseeing business
development, public relations, and custom product development.
Under his direction, the 16-bit microcontroller product line in
Japan was built into a $6 million dollar business. Brady holds an
M.B.A. from Harvard University and a B.S. degree in electrical
engineering from Stanford University.
Karen
Edwards - Vice President, Brand Marketing
Karen joined Yahoo! in January 1996 and formed the brand
management team responsible for promoting Yahoo!'s global brand
and properties. Prior to Yahoo!, Karen worked at Twentieth Century
Fox Home Entertainment, as director of business operations in
France, Spain and Italy, and director of marketing for North
America. Her earlier experience includes brand management at the
Clorox Company, account management at BBDO for Apple Computer, and
public affairs at Chevron USA. She holds an MBA from Harvard
University and a BA from Stanford University.
Heather
Killen - Vice President, International
Killen is responsible for Yahoo!'s overall business growth outside
the United States, and management of international strategic
partnerships. In this role, Killen manages multi-country teams in
product development, sales and marketing, administration, and
technical assistance. She has 11 years experience in
communications and journalism. Prior to joining Yahoo! in 1996,
Killen worked in business development with Ziff-Davis Publishing,
and subsequently guided the development of Ziff-Davis’ online
services business in Europe. Before Ziff-Davis, Killen was a
member of Salomon Brothers' corporate finance team in media. She
holds degrees in languages and philosophy from the University of
Queensland and the Universite de Paris III, and a Masters of
Business Administration from Columbia Business School.
Geoff
Ralston - Vice President, Development and Communciations
Geoff came to Yahoo! in October, 1997 with the acquisition by
Yahoo! of Four11 Corp. Prior to joining Four11 as VP of
Engineering at the end of 1995, Geoff was the creator of the
popular LookUP! Internet white pages and do-it-yourself home page
service. In the mid 1980's he was a key developer of Hewlett
Packard's TCP/IP networking software for Unix based servers and
workstations, and subsequently spent 5 years in France leading
HP's ISDN technology development group. Geoff returned to United
States to become a business development manager for HP, and in
1994 co-founded NetSMART, Inc., an Internet Presence Provider,
where he first applied his engineering expertise to the Internet
through the development of the LookUP! service. Geoff holds a BA
in Computer Science from Dartmouth College, an MS in Computer
Science from Stanford University, and an MBA from INSEAD, the
European Institute of Business Administration.
Ellen
Siminoff - Vice President, Business Development
Siminoff heads Yahoo!'s business development and strategic
planning efforts. Siminoff is responsible for the company's
distribution relationships with OEMs, Internet service providers,
browsers, content providers, and merchant and commerce partners.
Prior to Yahoo!, Siminoff worked in Internet media at the Los
Angeles Times where she developed and managed CareerPath.com and
LATimes. Previously, Siminoff co-founded EastNet, an emerging
market media barter syndicate, where she spent three years
travelling between Eastern Europe and the United States to
distribute television programming to Eastern and Central Europe
markets. Siminoff has a B.A. in Economics from Princeton
University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
Srinija
Srinivasan - Vice President, Editor in Chief
Srinija has extensive educational and practical experience in
information organization and artificial intelligence. Srinija
manages Yahoo!'s team of cataloguers and is responsible for the
design and maintenance of Yahoo!'s overall classification and
organization scheme, making it the most intuitive, robust,
expandable and efficient guide for online infomration and
discovery. Prior to joining Yahoo!, Srinija was involved with the
Cyc Project a ten-year artificial intelligence effort to build an
immense database of human commonsense knowledge, via two companies
Microelectronis and Computer technology Corporation (MCC) and
Cycorp. At Cycorp, Srinija independently managed its
California-based office, working closely with Cycorp's CEO to
solicit and sustain West-coast investor relations, and developed
the Cyc technology into innovative areas such as database browsing
and integration. Srinija's other professional and academic
accomplishments include a summer intensive in Japan as a
researcher and programmer for Fujitsu Laboratories, and published
research papers in highly-acclaimed journals including Government
Information Quarterly (Privacy and Data Protection in Japan) and
the Journal of Technology Transfer. Srinija holds a B.S. with
distinction from Stanford University in Symbolic Systems and
conducted course work in Japan, and is proficient in both written
and spoken Japanese.
Arthur
Kern - Director
Mr. Kern has served as a member of Yahoo!'s Board of Directors
since January 1996. Mr. Kern is a Founder, Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of American Media, which owns and operates four
commercial radio stations in the Michigan area. From 1969 to 1986,
Mr. Kern served in a variety of television sales management and
general management positions with Group W/Westinghouse
Broadcasting Company. Mr. Kern also serves on the Board of
Directors of Eller Media Company, a national outdoor advertising
company, and Northwest Broadcasting, a group owner of
Fox-affiliated television stations. Mr. Kern is a graduate of Yale
University.
Michael
Moritz - Director
Mr. Moritz has served as a member of Yahoo!'s Board of Directors
since April 1995. He has been a general partner of Sequoia
Capital, a venture capital firm, since 1988. Sequoia provided the
original venture capital financing and helped organize companies
such as Cisco Systems, C-Cube Micro Systems, Arbor Software, LSI
Logic, Linear Technology and Microchip Technology. Mr. Moritz also
serves as a Director of Flextronics International and Global
Village Communication, as well as several private companies.
Between 1979 and 1984, Mr. Moritz was employed in a variety of
positions by Time, Inc. Mr. Moritz has an MA degree in history
from Oxford University and an MBA from the Wharton School.
Eric
Hippeau - Director
Mr. Hippeau has served as a member of Yahoo!'s Board of Directors
since January 1996. Mr. Hippeau has served as Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of Ziff-Davis Publishing Company since 1993. Mr.
Hippeau joined Ziff-Davis in 1989 as publisher of PC Magazine. He
was promoted to Executive V.P. of Ziff-Davis in 1990, President
and Chief Operating Officer in February 1991, and Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer in October of 1991. Mr. Hippeau attended
the Sorbonne in Paris.
