YAHOO
IS DOING A SWEEP!!
Hello!
I'm writing you because you are either enrolled in a class at Webtech
U at this time or you were taking a class in the past few months.
I just
felt I should write to you all to let you know that Yahoo/Geo is
doing a
"sweep" of all of the websites looking for "remote
loading" violations. It
seems they are going on a violation hunt and the main thing they
are
targeting is remote loading and remote storage. Sites that have
free
graphics for people to download or have webrings are really at
risk because
with or without you knowing it people on WebTV and others could
be linking
to your images and that is remote loading and can be considered
storage.
Everyone should go ahead and back up their sites but those that I
mentioned
above are a greater risk. There have been many websites removed
due to this
violation. Remote loading means you've got someone
linking to something
on your site, for instance a picture or a graphic, or even a midi
file.
Another type of remote loading would be if you owned a webring, and the
graphic for the ring is on your site for others to link to
instead of
uploading to their own sites.
Just wanted to let you
all know so you
could check to make sure all is well with your websites. We all
work very hard
to
make a great web site and I'd hate for anyone to lose all that
hard work.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or another
community
leader for more information.
Sincerely,
Missy <end of message.>
