To each lunar month, the ancients assigned a name in accordance
with the nature of the activity that took place at that time

Wolf Moon- (January) Deepest in Winter.
Time when the wolves came close to the villages for food.

Nature Spirits: gnomes, brownies
Herbs:marjoram, holy thistle, nuts and cones
Colors: brilliant white, blue-violet, black
Flowers: snowdrop, crocus
Scents: musk, mimosa
Stones: garnet, onyx, jet, chrysoprase
Trees:birch
Animals: fox, coyote
Birds: pheasant, blue jay
Deities: Freyja, Inanna, Sarasvati, Hera, Ch'ang-O, Sinn
Power Flow: sluggish, below the surface; beginnin and conceiving. Protection, reversing spells. Conserving energy by working on personal problems that involve no one else. Getting your various bodies to work smoothly together for the same goals.

Storm/Ice Moon- (February) The storms come in silence.
They blanket the world in coldness.

Nature Spirits: house faeries, both of the home itself and of house plants
Herbs:balm of Gilead, hyssop, myrrh, sage, spikenard
Colors: light blue, violet
Flowers: primrose
Scents: wisteria, heliotrope
Stones: amethyst, jasper, rock crystal

Power Flow: energy working toward the surface; purification, growth, healing. Loving the self. Accepting responsibility for past errors, forgiving yourself, and making future plans.

Chaste/Storm Moon- (March) Like Diana, all of Nature is pure potential waiting to be fulfilled

Nature Spirits: Mer-people, Air and Water beings who are connected wth spring rains and storms
Herbs:broom, High John root, yellow dock, wood betony, Irish moss
Colors: pale green, red-violet
Flowers: jonquil, daffodil, violet

Power Flow: energy breaks into the open; growing, prospering, exploring. New beginnings; balance of Light and Dark. Breaking illusions. Seeing the truth in your life however much it may hurt.

Growing Moon- (April) Rabbits leap and play carefree in their mating and joyful in their games

Power Flow: energy into creating and producing; return balance to the nerves. Change, self-confidence, self-reliance, take advantage of opportunities. Work on temper and emotional flare-ups and selfishness.

Dryad/Hare Moon- (May) Time of the sacred marriage of the Goddess and God.
When all meet their opposites in perfect balance and in perfect harmony. "Let there be beauty, strength, power and compassion, honor and humility, mirth and reverence, within you."

Colors: green, brown, pink

Mead Moon- (June)After bees gather pollen and nectar, the hive fills with honey waiting to be gathered

Flowers: lavender, orchid, yarrow

Power Flow: full but restful energy; protect, strengthen, and prevent. A time of Light; Earth tides are turning. Decision-making, taking responsibility for present happenings. Work on personal inconsistencies. Strengthen and reward yourself for you positive traits.

Hay Moon- (July) Gathering of herbs.
Wort is the old Anglo-Saxon word for "herb".

Nature Spirits: hobgoblins (small, grotesque but friendly brownie-type creatures), faeries of harvested crops

Colors: silver, blue-gray
Flowers: lotus, water lilly, jasmine

Power Flow: relaxed energy; preparing; succeeding. Dream-work, divination, and meditation on goals and plans, especially spiritual ones.

Corn Moon- (August) A time to contemplate the eternalness of life. The grain in the bread we eat are descended from the first grain ever gathered.

Colors: yellow, orange
Flowers: sunflower, marigold
Scents: frankincense, heliotrope

Power Flow: energy into harvseting; gathering, appreciating. Vitality, health. Friendships.

Harvest Moon- (September) A time of true spiritual initiation. Since wine was and is such a sacred fluid, the Pagans of old named this Lunar month the Wine Moon.

Nature Spirits: trooping faeries
Herbs:copal, fennel, rye, wheat, valerian, skullcap
Colors: brown, yellow-green, yellow
Flowers: narcissus, lily
Scents: storax, mastic, gardenia, bergamot

Power Flow: rest after labor; balance of Light and Dark. Organize. Clean and straighten up physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual clutter.

Blood Moon- (October) Time for gathering and hunting food for the coming winter.

Nature Spirits: frost faeries, plant faeries
Herbs: pennyroyal, thyme, catnip, uva ursi, angelica, burdock
Colors: dark blue-green
Flowers: caldendula, marigold, cosmos
Scents: strawberry, apple blossom, cherry

Snow Moon- (November) Spirit most active when body is still. These are the dark months of Winter

Nature Spirits: subterranean faeries
Herbs:grains of paradise, verbena, betony, borage, cinquefoil, blessed thistle
Colors: gray, sea-green
Flowers: blooming cacti, chrysanthemum
Scents: cedar, cherry blossoms, hyacinth, narcissus, peppermint, lemon

Trees:alder, cypress
Animals: unicorn, scorpion, crocodile, jackal
Birds: owl, goose, sparrow

Power Flow: take root, prepare. Transformation. Strengthen communication with the god or goddess who seems closest to you.

Cold Moon- The moon nearest the Winter Solstice. Like the Divine Child who is born to die and dies to be reborn anew, the ancient Oak has its trunk and branches in the material world of the living, while its roots, the branches in reverse, reach deep into the Underworld, symbolic of the Spirit.

Colors: blood red, white and black
Flowers: holly, poinsettia, Christmas cactus

Blue Moon- This moon occurs when it's the second moon in a one month period.

Nature Spirits: banshees and other beings who carry messages between worlds

Flowers: white lily, dahlia, chrysanthemum
