  Anxiety

It creeps upon me
when I least expect it.
Odd sensations out of context
sweaty palms
my shirt all wet
while I sit here on the phone.

There’s nothing there
I tell myself
but feelings rise
my face all wet
I get this
Because I’m weird

I hold my breathe
I feel my heart
I really want to scream
I look around
I hear a sound
But I’m alone right here.

Safety is a foreign thing
Unknown to me
The terror known
is haunting me
Danger ever lurking
I’m never really free.
