Welcome to my Home Page, dedicated to salt water fishing in the Chesapeake Bay, power boating, and various other ramblings. My name is Carroll Ball, I’m a born-again Christian that takes God’s word seriously when He said in Genesis 3:28 “and have dominion over the fish of the sea”... I’ll even share some of my fishing secrets, for catching big fish, and where I'll fish in the future.
Since the Good Lord covered 75% of the earth with water and only 25% with land, He obviously intended for man to spend 3 times the amount of time fishing as he does working on his lawn.
I love to fish the Chesapeake Bay and the back bays along the mid-Atlantic seaboard. Since 1986 I've had my own boat, an 18.5 foot open bow, powered by a 175 hp OMC I/O. I kept it on a trailer just south of Baltimore, Maryland, making it convenient to go where the fish are biting. In August of 2003 I decided I wanted something a little bigger. I had two grandkids by now and wanted to be able to take them with me, I wanted a boat with a head, and one big enough to sleep on during some of the weekends in the summer. I also found that I was limited in the smaller boat by the winds on the bay. I bought a 1999 Bayliner 2655 Ciera after doing a lot of searching for what I thought would be the best boat for my needs. This boat sleeps 4, has a head, two showers, and a small galley. She's just over 26 feet, and is powered by a 250 HP Mercruiser with a Bravo III outdrive. This combination will allow me to cruise at 25-30 MPH while still keeping my RPM's around 3000. She has a bimini top and the cockpit can be enclosed with the isinglass curtains for early spring or late fall fishing. This boat is too big for me to trailer, so I keep in in a boatel that is 3 miles from the house. I am just off the mouth of the Magothy River and can be at the Bay Bridge in 20 minutes or less. Each Saturday during warm weather I can be found either somewhere on the bay at one of my favorite fishing spots, or messing with my corvette. I like snelling my own hooks, making bottom rigs for croaker and flounder, and casting (making) my own sinkers.
The two fish that I prefer to make the guest of honor at my table are the Striped Bass (Rockfish), and flounder. I must say that I also like small blue fish as meat for breakfast with my eggs. Here are three recipes for grilling your catch. Try them they taste great.
My other interests include spoiling my grandkids, driving my 1993 40th Anniversary Edition Corvette, hunting, and surfing the Web.
