In October 2009 we arichved a lot of unique pages from geocities before they were taken down. Geocities started in 1994 and was one of the most important websites in the world until it was closed on 27.10.2009. Our aim is to save those pages which are worthy and unique scientific sources or have a great public interest as well as those, which are historically intesting or just representing the 90s website culture and style. If you are interested in these old pages feel free to travel around them but note that it will take a long time until all pages are sorted, complete and free of any spam contents! In case you are searching for your own personal site, there is a little chance that we have it but did not put it online yet. Yet we are only very few people working on OoCities but there is a lot of work to get done. Please contact us if you are interessted in helping us, especially in one of the following tasks:
1.Categorize random pages written in your native language and delete mal-contents.
2.Translate our mainpage into your native language.
3.Answer email requests to find or remove certain pages.
4.Code serverside scripts.

Geocities Neighborhoods

Many early geocities pages were sorted into categories following the scheme: geocities.com/neighborhood/1000 up to geocities.com/neighborhood/subneighborhood/9999/ - Thus every single neighborhood (=categorie) or subneighborhood is containing up to 9000 pages numbered from 1000 to 9999

only 353 usernames include the "1994" whereas 52844 include "2001"
these numbers can give you a rough impression of geocities development during the years. (its reasonable to assume they have also been influenced by the "Year 2000 hype")
