Graasten

One of the prettier places we visited while I was in Denmark was Graasten Slot. This is where the queen of Denmark (Queen Margrethe II) has her summer house. The grounds of the castle are open to the public whenever she, or the family, is not in residence, so we were able to have a look over the beautiful grounds before she arrived for the summer on July 19.

Rochelle in the gardens of Graasten Slot

Green everywhere... The colours a contrast to the stark white of the castle. Rose beds of every color and fragrance were a prominent display. And such contrasts in floral colour!

The only area open to the public, apart from the expansive gardens was the small chapel, in which  artworks and fittings from Danish artisans were displayed.

Our imaginations ran wild, as we pondered the goings on of the past;  and the hustle and bustle that was to occur in the days to come when the Queen and her family arrived.

Viewing the manicured gardens...

The gardeners were busy and very active in anticipation of the queen's arrival when we were visiting, and the gardens were a bounty of colour. There was a surprise around every corner and things blended well with the swimming pool and tennis courts included in the grounds.
