The trip so
Far............01/12/04 - 10/01/05
(Dec-Jan)
I left Australia on Nov 30 and flew to KL, where I over-nighted and flew on to
the USA. Landing in LA I was met by a chauffeur and driven to Maryanne's house,
a friend from the net, where I stayed for about 3 weeks, I discovered LA and
Hollywierd, and the surrounding areas to Monrovia on the out skirts of LA.
My greatest thanx to Maryanne and her daughter Aja for making me feel most
welcome in the US of A, and making me feel more than at home.
It was then on to San Jose, and again was hosted by a friend from the net,
Jackie and her son Donald
While is San Jose I went to 2 of the best Xmas parties I have attended in many years, 1 at Jacky's house and the other at a work mate of hers. My host was very nice and made sure my stay was completely enjoyable.
I also found out
about the pit falls of being an Australian in the USA, some people are just out
to get what they can. (please read between the lines here) I should point out that
this had nothing to do with Jackie, but another person I met. (that's another
story in itself)
I then jumped another plane and sat next to a lady I now know as Phoebe and we
shared a seat and some great chat 'til Dallas where we parted company, for me it
was on to Louisville and for Phoebe it was on to Virginia Beach.
Whilst in Louisville, Kentucky I met up with a great mate from Australia, Glen
and his extended US family. What a great Xmas, I experienced snow for the first
time in a big way. It snowed for 2 days and we all were then house bound, snowed
in. Ahhhh cabin fever....... My thanx to Mary and Roger for all you did to make
my stay enjoyable, and to Roger may I say, thanx mate for helping me buy the
car. A special thanx to Glen and Amy for asking me to their parents home.
So the adventure continued, it was then on the road to Clarksburg, West
Virginia, about 480 miles, in my Chrysler New Yorker V8 for an overnighter.
Funny how things go, I rang Phoebe and we chatted for a good 2 or more hours,
with me saying hey why don't I come visit you. the next morning I jumped back in
the Car and drove 500 miles to Virginia Beach to hangout with my new- found
friend.
We stayed at a place right on the beach and the next night went to find a night
club to spend New Years Eve, whilst walking round looking silly we asked this
guy where the such an such night club was and his reply was " oh you mean
where all the white folks go, brother its just down there" we near fell
over laughin all the way down the street, what a blast.
Saw people shaking their bootie, and I must now add so did we, hey Phoebe has your Bootie recovered yet? I bet it will never be the same........
Funny how you can get away with anything when your an Aussie, they had a dress code that applied to everyone but me, hahahaha, and I'm now starting to get used to people saying "you're not from round these parts are ya".
The following night
Phoebe and I again braved the "night club" and went back to the same
place for more silliness, the barmaid even recognized us when we walked in the
door, and yelled "hey the Aussies back" so everyone looked, and I felt
stupid. The good part was she could almost understand the way I talked,
something about the accent, I think.
Alas all good things and fun must come to an end sooner than later and Phoebe
and I parted ways yet again, promising to catch up soon...........
I then headed south in the car and drove to Dallas, some 1300 miles, I guess I
should now add that when on the freeways here the posted speed limit is only a
very loose suggestion : 65 means 80, and so does almost any other posted limit
for that matter.
I sat on the spot where JFK was shot and met some real nice people with whom I
had lunch, "Gidday Denni".
I then jumped back
in my "limo" and headed for Albuquerque, and as Bugs once said "
I should have taken a left turn at Albuquerque" so I did, and ended up in
Kingman, Arizona.
I am now staying in Kingman with some friends I didn't know I had, Hmmmm, must
be the fellowship thing happening here.
Ripley and Cora, were silly enough to say hey you can stay here, so I did, and am for the time being.
So stay tuned as the
adventures of where's Waz are only just beginning to unfold,
I would like to say a big GIDDAY to all the people I have met and have been good
to me so far, and to the couple of people who have been a little lets say
"weird" GET KNICKED
Ciao for now
