What's New! | About | Gen Recs: #,A-F G-M N-S T-Z| By Character | My Fic | Links

7 July 2006

Well, as much as I hate to say it, this will be my last update to this page. I'm becoming more involved in RL and in other fandoms, and pretty much all the HP fic I read is directly from my LJ flist. This page will definitely stay up, however. All of the links have been updated, though there's a list of fics here that I can't find anymore. If you know where any of them are, send me an email and I'll update them.

When I started this page, it was one of the only places with exclusively gen recommendations. Now, though, there are lots and lots of other places to find gen. Many of them can be found on my links page. I'd like to highlight the HP genfic masterlist, which is taking recommendations right now, and fishwink, who has a *lot* of recs. Also, if you're interested, there are a bunch of links to fics I had potentially bookmarked for this page here; I haven't read a lot of them, however, and I can't necessarily vouch for their quality or whether or not they're actually gen.

And so, to the last few recs.

Alternative Therapy (PG-13) by lyras. After the War, Neville comes around to do Harry's gardening. Sweet. One shot.

Almost- October Day (PG) by Cate. In the first September of their first year, MWPP have a celebration. Nice and fluffy. One shot.

The Chocolate Frog War (G) by Leni Jess. Stuck in Azkaban, Snape is drawn into an escalating conflict with his jailors. Clever. One shot.

Chosen (PG-13) by Gehayi. In which Draco has a special job among the Death Eaters, and Voldemort gets something he's always longed to have. Dark. One shot.

Christmas on the Dail Llewellyn Ward (PG) by Emily Anne. I have no idea why I didn't rec this before; it's definitely an HP classic. During OotP, Remus talks to the werewolf in the bed next to Arthur Weasley's. Great characterization and dialogue. One shot.

Dumbledore, or The Magical Prometheus (PG-13) by marginaliana. A very interesting theory on who--or rather, what--Snape might be. Dark. One shot.

Five Dead Women (R) by Snegurochka. Some very, very minor het. This fic explores the link between several Potterverse women and what they had in commmon. Dark. One shot.

For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power (R) by V.M. Bell. Voldemort visits a place from his childhood. Dark. One shot.

Learning to Uncurl (G?) by amorettea. Harry helps Snape accept his animagus form. I love the gentle humor and the adorable relationship between Harry and Snape in this fic. One shot.

Prison Visit (G) by Azazello. Stan Shunpike gets a visitor in his cell one night. Angsty, but kind of hopeful. One shot.

The Shipping Forecast (G) by Azazello. So, if Snape was from Yorkshire, why doesn't he speak that way? Alternately funny and sad. One shot.

Sorted Differently (PG) by magistera. A few other ways that Hogwarts students might be Sorted. Funny. One shot.

To Walk Afraid (PG?) by imochan. Little Sirius occasionally sees a large black dog. The end brings it together wonderfully. Angsty. One shot.

8 April 2006

One Lump or Two, Mr. FloppyEars? (G) by Write_away_the_pain. Six-year-old Hermione prepares for some very important guests. Incredibly sweet. One shot.

A Reversal (G?) by tarigwaemir. Snape and Lupin sit across from each other in Potions. A quite intriguing spin on canon, made all the more plausible by the excellent characterization. One shot.

Slouching Towards Bethlehem (R) by Kroki Refur. Sixth year AU; Harry is moping over Sirius' death, and Draco has disappeared. Novel length WIP, possibly abandoned.

That Minty Fresh Glow (T) by Shinga. James and Sirius have brewed a new potion, and they want to test it out on Peter. Cute and well characterized. One shot.

18 February 2006

Coping with Friendly Spiders and English Wednesdays (PG) by Seshat. Sirius gets his own place and has a visitor. One shot.

Courage (PG) by Sioniann. Listed as having implied Albus/Harry, but I don't see it myself. The cave scene, from Albus' point of view. Bittersweet. One shot.

The Dark (T) by Kay. Draco gets locked up and goes a bit crazy. Nice horrorfic. One shot.

The Taste of Smoke (PG-13) by Tani. There are some things that cannot be forgotten. For George Weasley, the taste of smoke is one of them. One shot.

Wild Men Who Sang the Sun in Flight (PG-13) by lyras. Sirius' final battle. Nice characterization. One shot.

The Abyss Gazes Also (R) by luna. Sirius, and others, endure in Azkaban. Dark. One shot.

A Marked Woman (PG-13) by sapphiretragedy. There's a little lust, but nothing that really affects the story. Bellatrix meets Lord Voldemort for the first time, and learns some new things. Dark. One shot.

Never Truly Leave Us (PG-13) by YayCoffee. Remus deals with Sirius' death. It's hard to lose someone you love. Again. Sad. One shot.

As you can see, I'm in some nice new digs, thanks to Ava Waters. You may wish to update your bookmarks, though I'll be leaving the redirects up for the foreseeable future.

Also, I wanted to mention omniocular as a new moderated community where new community for good genfic writers to post their stories. They also issue challenges for both members and non-members.

21 October 2005

I'm still alive, just busy. Anyway, for any genfic writers out there, saeva is running another genficathon.. You have until November 4th to sign up for it, and the deadline for writing is January 14th.

I'll bring more recs soon, promise!

26 September 2005

Quick note: if you're just starting out and want to feel your way around, parallactic has a very nice informal guide to genfic here. The more resources the better!

25 September 2005

Beautiful Boy (G?) by Poppy P. An incredibly sweet fic about baby!Harry's hair. Guaranteed to give you tooth decay. One shot.

Fading Light (PG) by Lyta Padfoot. During the Blitz, Tom Riddle finds himself entertaining a young girl. I like the ending. One shot.

A Father and his Son (PG-13) by Bunney. Lucius and Draco have a chat. Not at all nice. One shot.

In Blood Only (M) by E.M. Snape. It's a Severitus fic, so of course there's past Snape/Lily, and there's also some Harry/Tonks and a few other minor het ships, though you can happily ignore them if you like. Harry finds out that Snape is his father, and gets drawn into various intrigues and revenge schemes. AU, novel length WIP, nearly finished.

The Bureau of Loopholes (T) by Gileonan. MWPP, as well as many others, get caught up in the struggle for the rights of humans with accidentally- inflicted preternatural conditions. Has some interesting ideas about the early days of the Death Eaters, as well. Novel length, abandoned WIP.

Green Thumb (G/PG) by Bryonia Alba. Neville starts his first garden and recieves his first sweets wrapper because of it. Bittersweet. One shot.

Sin of Lycaos (M) and its sequel Wolf by Ears (M) by D.M.P. The first fic includes a little flirting, as well as a sexual assault which doesn't get very far; the second one is definitely borderline. What Lupin was doing during the GOF year, with a lot of werewolf rights stuff thrown in. AU. Both novel length; sequel is a WIP.

The Substance of Things Hoped For (PG?) by Catrinella. Neville nurses his grandmother through her last sickness. Very Neville-ish, in a good way. One shot.

19 September 2005

Well, as you can see, I've got a new format up! The idea is that this way I can do rolling recs, and just post whatever I've put up on this page, instead of doing recs monthly and then having to go back and sort through them all. Also, they're now divided up into three pages, by alphabetical title.

If you see anything that looks out of place, or don't see a rec that you remember being here, please email me about it right away. I know a couple of people have asked if I could sort fics by author; I'd really like to do that, but logistically it's probably not going to happen until about January.

Anyway, enjoy the new, hopefully easier to navigate pages! I'll start posting new recs as soon as I can.
