A special event promoting DTL!
DRAWING THE LINE: The Magic of Giving 4th November 2004
SOMETHING SPECIAL: A Special Event that raised $2,500!
Thanks to the generous support of Indigo Books & Music, Drawing The Line was the featured attraction at recent special event.
VISION: to raise awareness and to generate sales of the graphic novel, DRAWING THE LINE and raise funds for the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation and The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.
Our effort is to continue raising funds to reach our goal of $25,000 for the two hospital foundations. Indigo Books & Music agreed to sell Drawing The Line on our special night and ensured that 100% of the proceeds went directly to our fundraising effort!
SPONSORSHIP: A HUGE thank you to Indigo Books & Music, who was our core sponsor and provided a fantastic venue, complete with music and refreshments. On top of their generous hospitality, Indigo Books & Music also donated 10% of the evening’s proceeds back to cancer research!
We also had other very generous sponsors who donated, gifts, services and works of art to our silent auction. Our most heartfelt thank you to our wonderful donors:
- Browser’s Den of Magic
- Canada Custom Picture Framing
- Cathie Moran, RMT (Head, Heart & Hands Chiropractic Centre)
- Silver Snail Comic Shop
- Chip Zdarsky
- Dave Sim
- Fred Bernard
- James Waley, Ron Kasman and Steve Leblanc
- Ron Boyd
- Stan Sakai
- Suley Fattah
And a very special thank you to our MC and strolling magician, David Ben.
ARTISTS: Also on hand were some of the artists from Drawing The Line. These artists come out to these signings time and time again to support the book and awareness of the book. We cannot thank these wonderful people enough for not only donating to DTL but also for their continued support:
Our thanks also to Dave Sim and Chester Brown, who could not attend the event, for taking time out to sign over 300 books!
RESULT: In just two hours, people who were touched or inspired by this project came to Indigo Books & Music and rallied around a very worthy cause. We are still tallying the results but we estimate that the evening’s effort raised $2,500 that will go towards cancer research! Thank you to EVERYONE who came out to support this special event!
OUR THANKS: This event would not have happened if it were not for the tireless efforts of:
- Jeremy Cammy of Indigo Books & Music
- Alison Bloetjes of Sick Kids Foundation
- Jessica McColeman of The Princess Margaret Foundation
- Sofia Ramirez of Sick Kids Foundation - our champion of this project
- Alex Orr, Sari Morrison and Alla Steen for volunteering
- Ryan Roguski and the amazing staff of the flagship store of Indigo Books & Music at the Manulife Centre
- Ron Boyd editor of Drawing The Line
Everyone’s patience, cooperation and assistance made the evening possible! We are deeply indebted to Heather Reisman, CEO of Indigo Books & Music, for seeing the magic of this speical event and making it happen.
