Richard Chandler and Charity (Parks) Chandler

 

Richard Chandler was born between 1770 and 1780 in Virginia or North Carolina.  He married most likely 1797 or 1798 probably Wilkes County, North Carolina to Charity Parks (daughter of Thomas Parks and Sarah ?) born between 1770 and 1780 Wilkes County, North Carolina.  Charity (Parks) Chandler died most likely after 1843 Carroll County, Georgia.  Richard Chandler died most likely after 1843 Carroll County, Georgia.  Place of death and burial for Richard Chandler or Charity Parks Chandler is not known.

There are many records/documents for Richard Chandler.  His parents have never been found or proved, nor is there any known siblings. The only verification for Richard Chandler and Charity Parks marriage is a (Image 1, Image 2, Typed), Power of Attorney Document, where Richard and Charity give Power of Attorney to her brother George Parks to sell land that she has from her father's estate. This document proves that they were indeed man and wife.

Richard Chandler is first found in 1797 in the Wilkes County Tax Records Image.  He moved to Franklin County, Georiga as early as 1813 and lived there until 1834 when he started selling the land he had acquired.  Richard is next found in 1835 Carroll County, Georgia and is documented through 1843 from various Church, Land and Tax records, after which he disappears from any known records.

Richard and Charity had a family of 5 sons and 1 daughter that is known and documented.  They may have had more children, but no absolute proof has been found, only suspected.

1.    Matilda Chandler born 1799 North Carolina.  Married February 26, 1818 Franklin County, Georgia to #1 Abcol Carter.  Married September 30, 1837 Carroll County, Georgia to #2 Gabrial Smith.  Married #3 Mr. Brown.  Matilda Chandler Brown died after 1880.

2.    Parks Chandler born between 1790 and 1800 North Carolina

3.    Ambrose Chandler born 1805 North Carolina.  Married May 3, 1827 Franklin County, Georgia to Jerusha White.  Ambrose Chandler died April 9, 1868 Carroll County, Georgia

4.    Lindsey Chandler born May 6, 1810 North Carolina.  Married May 30, 1830 Franklin County, Georgia to Matilda Sewell (daughter of Greenberry Sewell and Elizabeth Braswell?).  Lindsey Chandler died January 1, 1891 Carroll County, Georgia, buried Poplar Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Georgia.

5.    Major Lewis Chandler born 1815 Franklin County, Georgia.  Married July 3, 1836 Carroll County, Georgia to #1 Malinda Sewell (daughter of Greenberry Sewell and Elizabeth Braswell?).  Married June 23, 1865 Carroll County, Georgia to #2 Mrs. Elizabeth Frances (Brooks) Payne.  Death date and place of Buriel of Major Lewis Chandler unknown.

6.    Marion Chandler born 1818 Franklin County, Georgia.  Married 18 March 1838 Carroll County, Georgia to Elizabeth Fennell (Teunell).
