ICEBERGS CAP OFF ROOKIE SEASON WITH CHAMPIONSHIP!

On August 2, 2003 Mark C. of the Icebergs celebrated his birthday by winning his first BFL Championship in BFL Bowl VI. With the victory, the Icebergs became the first rookie team to win the BFL Bowl Championship in their first season infront of a record setting 21 people.

To get the BFL Bowl, Mark had gone 2-1 in the regular season and knocked off the defending champion Sparrows in the semi finals. Mark's opponent was John of the Veteran Black Knights. John made is third BFL Bowl Appearance in 2003, and attempted to win his first BFL Bowl after he tied in 2000 and lost in 2001. Coming into the game, John was the first team to play 3 playoff games in one season playing in a wild card game against the Crusaders, and edging the Gamblers on a risky 2 point conversion as time ran out. This set the stage for a rematch from the regular season that the Icebergs won, by a nose.

After the two teams exchanged touchdowns, Mark never trailed in the first quarter and lead 21-14 at the end of 1. But up 28-24, quarterback Brandon threw the first interception in a BFL Bowl since BFL Bowl I to John who cut the lead down to 28-26. And soon, the Black Knights took their first lead of the game 33-28 on an amazing catch in the endzone.

However, the Icebergs responded with a touchdown to regain the lead for good. Then, Mark performed a rare onside throw which was successful. At the half, the Icebergs went up 42-33. The Black Knights repetidly tried stopping Mark, making him face many 3rd and 1's. However, Mark could not be stopped on this day.

Up 70-61, the Icebergs caught their first interception of the game and were soon able to increase the lead to 18 points, 79-61. As the 4th quarter went on, the Icebergs came up with a huge defensive stop followed by 1 final play to end the clock and wrap up there first BFL Bowl victory, by the largest margin to date.

The game will be remembered as a game full of clutch plays and remarkable touchdowns. In BFL Bowl VI, the Icebergs and Black Knights gave their all, but the Icebergs would prevail.
