On
August 4, 1999 the Sparrows and Dragons would once again meet for
the BFL Championship in BFL Bowl II. This time, the Sparrows would
attempt to cap off the first undefeated season in BFL history. Earlier
in the season, the Sparrows defeated the Dragons 90-87 in the highest
scoring game in BFL history, at the time. And a year prior, the
Sparrows edged the Dragons in the first BFL Bowl in an other spectacular
game. The Dragons who came into the game at 1-2 were tied with the
with Melody and Koala for 2nd place, but won the tied breaker in
points ratio. This set up an excellent matchup and rivalry for BFL
Bowl II.
After
winning the coin toss, the Dragons elected to throwoff, giving the
ball to the Sparrows. Ken would be on top of a 7-0 lead after scoring
the first touchdown of the game. On the ensuing throwoff, Rich bobbled
the ball back into his own endzone where Ken was there to make the
Yakle, and score the first ever safety in BFL history. With a 9-0
lead, Ken would regain possession. On a medium strike, Ken would
go up 16-0 with all the momentum on his side.
The
Dragons were finally able to get on the board after a long touchdown
catch from Howie, and cut the lead to 16-7. From here on, the two
teams would both exchange touchdowns for the half. Rich was able
to cut Ken's lead down to 12 after Ken made a field goal and Rich
scored a touchdown, 33-21. At the half, the Score was 54-42, Sparrows.
At
the half, the Koala were honored with the MVP "GoGo" Award.
In
the third quarter, the Sparrows lead over the Dragons grew to an
amazing 19 point lead, 68-49. And in the 4th, the Dragons fell behind
by 23, 75-52. Ken missed very few catches throughout the game and
was playing near perfect football.
The
Dragons ended the game on a 15-0 run to cut the lead down to 82-75.
But time ran out on the Dragons comeback as the Sparrows brought
in their 2nd BFL Bowl Championship in 2 years capping off an undefeated
season and winning their 7th straight game in a row.
