Approaching Summit
The final pitch of your climb up Shastina is a gently sloping ridge line which leads to the summit block. As seen in this early autumn view, this stretch may be covered in deep or deformed snow. Enjoy the airy views as you pick your way along the snow and rock leading up to the 12,330 foot summit. If you are lucky, the weather will be sunny, and in late summer and fall the temperatures may be quite mild. However, never take for granted that weather conditions will be so gentle, as high winds can quickly plunge the wind chill factor to dangerous levels.
