Sun Tzu wrote the work we know in English as The Art of War 2400 years ago. Today it is studied by military leaders, corporation executives, and felines around the world. Its understanding is essential to the feline ninja: advanced ninja training focuses on mental skills. Mastery of others begins with mental mastery -- first of one's self and then of those whom one has targeted. Suitable imagery and suitable surroundings are essential. Tao of Meow has both.

Wei Wu was the first (human) to write a commentary on The Art of War. We make our own commentary to help cats who cherish and control their companion humans. Please note that the words of Sun Tzu are shown in red with our comments in brown.

Pretending to look ineffective as warriors
CHAPTER 1. LAYING PLANS
A military operation involves deception. Even though you are competent, appear incompetent. Though effective, appear ineffective.
Handsome as we are in our ninja pajamas, we do not often wear them in public. By disguising ourselves as "ordinary" cats and looking incompetent, we lure d*gs into overconfident behavior that leads to their defeat. By appearing ineffective, we lure our human into taking action on our behalf. In this way, we have freed our neighborhood of that unruly pack of d*gs that was roaming our streets. We did it without losing a single nap!

Use anger to throw them into disarray.

Practicing the principle of deception.
Humans regard paper with a special fascination that indicates it is sacred to them. Shredding and scattering paper makes them angry. However, being under the spell of enchantment felines cast over humans, they try to control this anger by offering games, treats, or other diversions. The most powerful example of this is the effect of a cat's leaping onto a table and lying down on the papers a human is reading. Humans seem to have an inborn urge to stroke the fur of a cat lying on important papers such as tax forms rather than to continue working. Most felines have observed that walking across the computer keyboard has a similar effect. Careful: don't overuse this technique!

When you have attained an understanding of these principles and adapted them into your daily routine, continue your study of Sun Tzu Chapter 2.
