Being formed 36 million years ago, this natural wonder is linked to Chiapas history and represents one of the most breathtaking beauties of Mexico. The trip through the canyon, on the Grijalva River, is just an unforgettable experience. The cliffs, over 900 meters high (2,900 feet) hold caves and waterfalls as well as an extraordinary variety of fauna specimens such as birds, monkeys and crocodiles. All this wonder of nature can be admired from the boats that sail the canyon in a 32 kms (19 miles) tour departing from Chiapa de Corzo or Cahuaré. The Canyon can also be admired from the highs in five lookout points.
Location
Between Tuxtla Gutierrez and Chiapa de Corzo. Boats can be taken from a dike in Chiapa de Corzo (2 blocks from the main plaza) and Cahuaré.
