Adam

Pertman

FCC-DV is honored to welcome Keynote Speaker Adam Pertman, Executive Director of the Evan B. Donaldson Institute, one of the pre-eminent policy and education oranization in its field. Mr. Pertman is also the author of "Adoption Nation: How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming America," which was named Book of the Year in 2001 by the National Adoption Foundation and which has been reviewed as "the most important book ever written on the subject.

Mr. Pertman was nominated for a Pulitzer Price for his writing about adoption in the Boston Globe. His commentaries on families and children have also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun, Miami Herald, and on National Public Radio. 

Mr. Pertman will challenge and inspire us with his Keynote Address:  Welcome to the Revolution!

Kathryn

Creedy

Kathryn Creedy is the Executive Director of the Institute for Adoption Information, a nonprofit organization of adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents, adoption professionals and others who have united to enhance the understanding of adoption and to advocate for balanced, accurate coverage of adoption in news and entertainment media.

Ms. Creedy is author of "The Educator's Guide to Adoption" and will speak about curricula issues in school that may be difficult for children who joined their families through adoption.

Edward Terrell

PhD

John Edward Terrell, author and anthropologist, joins us from The Field Museum in Chicago.  He is currently Curator, Oceanic Archaeology & Ethnology there, as well as Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Terrell is also the Co-Director of The Collaborative Kinship and Adoption Project, Center for Cultural Understanding and Change, at The Field Museum. His professional interests lie in social action and change, kinship and adoption, ethnicity, and  human diversity.

Panel

Our Adoption Panel is comprised of adult adoptees, adoptive parents and adoption professionals.  Brother and sister Kevin Zajac and Maura Zajac McGuire will join us; Kevin is an admissions counselor/international counselor at St. Joe's and Maura is a lawyer specializing in Family Law.  Also, Jessica Radin, an educator and adoption specialist.

Halkett

Our Adoption Panel will be facilitated by Kerri-Lee Halkett, award-winning journalist and anchor of the Fox Channel's "Good Day Philadelphia."  Ms. Halkett's life is touched by adoption through friends and has graciously agreed to moderate our panel discussion.
