Valence’s first inhabitant was certainly a Roman Legionnaire, but ever since that time the city has continued to be a melting pot for many cosmopolitan trends from all over the world; cultural influences which are still part of today's life with the busy flow of traffic up and down the Rhône Valley: Europe's most important route for communications: a very happy state of affairs for Valence which benefits from being a crossroads for so many nations all year round.

Located midway between the north pole and the equator, halfway between Paris and the Mediterranean coast, with the Alps nearby, Valence enjoys an exceptional position.

All of which has gone into making Valence a more and more dynamic centre of activity.

Motorways, the railway, the Rhône river and an international airport are all within easy reach of the town, which is also located in the heart of two regions, the Drôme and the Ardèche whose landscapes have been described as a " miniature France”.

That is just to name only some of the town's assets. A newly flourishing university, urban construction under renovation, advance technology industries, cultural centres, up and coming artists and athletes, inspired " cuisine"; Valence is cutting out a place for itself in today's France. Visitors will have a chance to discover some of the " treasures" in the old city as well as the more recent ones. Visit the ornamental 19th century façades on the boulevards, or take a stroll along the shady green canals.  Whatever you do, you will enjoy Valence.
