| Land of sweet abundance, mellow fruitfulness and good old apple pie. As a nation of immigrants, covering an enormous land mass the US could offer a range of tastes, culinary styles and produce second to none but instead the US has adopted the UK's somewhat protestant attitude to food and although the Americans eat they don't, on the whole, eat very well; hence statistics show that 53% of Americans are overweight compare to a western European average of 33%. Of course America has great restaurants as these pages will testify but a foody's enjoyment of the US will be based on quantity, value and quality of foods rather than the subtly or creativity of the dish. But what the hell when you've got a huge lobster on your plate who needs a carved carrot.
