TURBO B20A ACCORD

ACCORD ENGINE REMOVAL

For removal of the A-motor, give yourself at least 7 hours to do a decent job. Mark all hoses and lines.

Begin with jacking and supporting the front of the car on stands. Remove hood, drain engine/tranny/cooling fluids, remove air intake/cooling hoses/vacuum lines, unhook battery/ignition and ground leads/throttle cable/cruise control cable/clutch cable, relieve fuel pressure, disconnect engine harness, disconnect and plug fuel lines (use old spark plugs). Radiator removal will ease in engine removal.

Before removing/discharging the air-conditioning, you'll need to check the local laws for proper discharge procedures.

Move out of the way or remove the power steering (not necessary to remove).

Loosen all motor/tranny mounting bolts.

The most difficult part may be breaking the suspension spindle nut loose. Obviously, do this procedure with the wheels contacting the ground to eliminate wheel spin when you're attempting to torque off the nut.

On either side, remove the front radius rod. Unbolt the front damper fork from the front lower arm. Unbolt the top pinch bolt, unhook the brake line, and remove the damper fork from the front strut unit. Unbolt the front sway bar bushings from the front lower arm (you can let the front sway bar hang free).

Loosen the castle nut for the lower ball joint (attaching the front wheel bearing assembly to the front lower arm). Carefully tap the lower ball joint loose with a hammer...don't fall for the trap of using a pickle fork to pry the ball joint loose, you'll just pinch the rubber of the ball joint and end up having to replace it. Hopefully, you should now be able to separate the front lower arm from the front wheel bearing assembly. Leave the front lower arm hanging low for clearance. Support the front wheel bearing assembly on a stand (or remove entirely).

Carefully remove the left and right drive-shafts.

Use a cherry picker and pull the motor, and set it aside.
