Dear Elizabeth.
Thank you for your Website which is most helpful in our research into our family's history. We have detected some anomalies as regards the records of William McKean and his wife Ann Broderick. They are as follows :-
William's death certificate states that he died on the 20th April 1921 (Not 1920). In addition shipping records state that he arrived in Portland, Vic with his parents John and Mary Mckean and the rest of the family aboard the "Marmion" on 4th December,1852. The records state that he was 13, but a quick sum would suggest that he was only 9.
But most importantly, to us anyway, your records do not include William and Ann's fifth child, our grandfather, Herbert Archibald (Arch) McKean 1881-1920.
Arch married Alice Neels in 1907. They had six children, Archie Aubert (Aub), Kenneth Meinart,(our father), Lorna Vera, Ivor, and twins Stuart and Bruce. The twins were born after Arch was tragically crushed by a train at Macorna in 1920. Alice successfully raised her children, on her own through the Depression by keeping a Boarding house in Elsternwick, Melbourne. Her third son, Ivor, also died tragically, as a POW in the infamous Sandakan (Borneo) POW camp.
Arch was a successful professional sprinter who had the unique record of being placed in the Stawell Gift two years in a row - 3rd in 1905, and we understand 4th in 1906. He was a mail contractor and stock and station agent. We believe he worked for his brother William as an agent. The Estate Agency W.McKean & Co still functions in Bendigo although there are no McKeans involved these days.
Thank you again for your interesting Web Site.
Bruce Mckean and Bev Chandler.

7. Violet Ella McKean 1890 - 1943 #4097d aged 52 years

From on Fri, 15 Apr 2005

Dear Elizabeth,
You have missed a child of William Mckean and Ann Broderick - Violet Ella. She died of lung cancer in 1943, aged 52 years - death reg# 4097d.
Violet married William James Hughes in Inglewood Victoria in 1908 - marriage reg# 4135R. She is my late motherinlaw's mother, and the ggrandmother of my son.
She had a very difficult life with William . According to Lyla, who had her mother's bible, Violet had 16 children and each of them eventually died from cancer (including Lyla herself). However, I have found the births of 4 sons, all of whom died either at birth or in the same year of their births. I cannot find all of them as some were born after 1919 - the final date for the Vic records, but I will get her death certificate as I have only just begun this side of research.
Thankyou, and please contact me as I would like to share information with you if that's okay, Yvonne

This page is part of Elizabeth Janson's web site Yes, it certainly is a small world, while in Cairns in June of this year we got talking to a lady from Tassie and she and her husband had just sold their farm at Tewkesbury in the north of the state, I told her my nephew just bought a farm there and it turns out it was their farm they bought we couldn't believe it. My line comes down the Tatnell line as my g-grandmother was Katherine Jane Tatnell sister to Sarah. Thank you for the info anyway. Love Sharon To: "s" Sent: Sunday, October 12, 2003 7:01 PM Subject: Re: Jacobson-Tatnell Hi, My link to Bellett is through Jane INCHES. She is a descendant of Jacob BELLETTE who was a First Fleet convict originally sent to Norfolk Island. Jane Inches 28 May 1853 at Hobart, Tasmania, wed 30 Apr 1872 at Franklin, Tasmania, to John Drysdale Jane is a daughter of Mary Garth 1827 - 1862 at Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, wed 1845 at Hobart, Tasmania, Australia to Thomas Inches. Mary Garth is the 8th child of James Garth 1791 born at Norfolk Island and died 1872 - Franklin, Tasmania, wed 1815 - Hobart, Tasmania, Australia to Mary Bellett John Drysdale is the brother of my mother's grandfather, Walter Drysdale. So I do not think I am on your Bellett tree, but my cousins descending from Jane Inches would be.
