Ghanma

1981 - 1983

Mrs. Ghanma

Mrs. Ghanma, who was the Deputy Head Teacher, took over as Head Teacher in January 1981.  A new laboratory was built on the middle floor in the present Art/Craft room.

A syllabus was drawn up and HMI came to inspect the school for maybe the first time in the history of the ICS.  The first male teacher, Mr. Proctor, was recruited from the UK and little did he know at the time that his sister Susan Hussein would become the secretary in the very same school!  You can spot him just behind Mrs. Ghanma.

Royalty at the ICS

This photograph shows HRH Crown Prince Hassan and HRH Princess Sarvath with their son HRH Prince Rashid.  Their Royal Highnesses participated in many school activities for example sponsored walks, PTA meetings and international days.  (Notice how small the trees on the hill are compared to now.)  The other photograph shows HRH Princess Summaya Al-Hassan in a national costume.

Queen Elizabeth II visited Jordan in March 1984.  The ICS children had lined the route that the Queen was to take between Zahran Palace and the British Ambassador's residence.  The plan was that the Queen would greet the children as she walked by.  However, for safety reasons the Queen was driven to the Ambassador's residence instead.  The children were very disappointed.  Later that afternoon the Queen heard that some of the ICS children were in tears.  She then decided to made a special visit to the school, escorted by their Majesties King Hussein and Queen Noor.
