Bataineh
1991
- 1997
Mrs.
Wendy Bataineh
Mrs.
Bataineh took over from Mr. Mylroie in 1991 and gradually the number of pupils
picked up. The school became a primary school only, following the British
New National Curriculum. School development plans and in-service training
sessions have been introduced for the teachers.
Modern
and sophisticated computers were being installed and the IT has become an
important part of the curriculum.
This
photograph shows Mrs. Bataineh, HRH Princess Rahma al-Hassan and Mr. Collis
(chairman of the Board of Directors) during a visit of Her Highness to the
school on June 23rd, 1996.
During
the reign of Mrs. Bataineh, the school underwent big changes. The number
of after-school clubs was increased, with specialist teachers and coaches.
There was a wide range of activities offered, for example ballet, gymnastics,
table tennis, hockey, fencing and tae kwon do.
But
also the building changed. On the ground floor, what was Mr. Burhan's
office at one point became one large room as an office for the Head Teacher,
Mrs. Bataineh. Part of the changing rooms was turned into an office for
the Deputy Head, Mr. Brisley. The bursar's office was moved into Mrs.
Bataineh precious office. Mr. Burhan's room was now in the bursar's
previous office. The Infant library, which was next to the nurse's room,
had now become a display area and the Nursery room, which was extended to the
play area, had now become Infant One. The foyer was refurnished with
modern cast-iron furniture.
On
the first floor, classrooms were changed and walls knocked down to install
sliding doors between Junior 1 and 2 and Junior 3 and 4. In this photo you
can see Mr. Brisley talking to both classes at once.
The
CDT room was moved to the top floor and French and Arabic classes were held in
the room next door.
