Clare
1983
- 1989
Mr.
Trevor Clare
Mr.
Clare was the first male Head Teacher of the school. He started his duties
in September
1983. Specialist teachers were employed for PE, music and drama.
Computers were introduced and the laboratory was moved to the third floor.
A new class was added and the number of children was about 350, starting with
Kindergarten, Infants, Juniors and three secondary classes.
The
International Day became the International Food Fair. the idea was that
the children would role play Travel Agents, to sell their countries with their
family's support. While maintaining the children's
identity, the Food Fair became a money spinner and is very popular, even with
the non-parental community.
In
those days, there were many Japanese companies in Jordan and this is reflected
in this photograph.
On
February 25th, 2001, Mr. Clare wrote the following in the online guestbook of
the school:
"Head
Teacher from 1983 - 1989. My wife taught classes of children aged 7-8.
Many congratulation on having got this 'guestbook' up and running.
The ICS was a very special school to us, and no doubt it still is. I often tell
people that every child and every teacher should spend at least two years in an
International School like the ICS. I truly believe that we have greater
understanding and are richer for having this shared experience.
We still remember very fondly so many children and teachers from our time at the
ICS. It is impossible to keep in touch regularly with so many but I am sure that
this site will be a way for many of us to learn what others are doing today.
We are retired and living in France, although I continue to teach English as a
Foreign Language at night-school and in a number of companies. My wife is
involved in the local choir and takes part in concerts every year.
So pass the word on to your friends that this site is available. It would be
lovely to have news of so many young people and some older teachers.
Greetings to all ex-pupils and teachers from us both.
Trevor
and Bridget Clare"
