MAMMA SUPPORTS: Gulf War Vets!

WELCOME!
We are so glad that you are visiting this page. It gives us a chance to introduce you to a very 'Special' young man. Don't let his mild manner and self effacement fool you...he epitomizes the word: 'HERO'!

Kevin Shores is a remarkable young vet, who embodies true American citizenship! (and MAMMA's CEO feels proud and lucky to live in the same city he lives in!) Confined to a wheelchair and steadily declining in health, due to Gulf War Syndrome, he had an Epiphany when he connected up with the American Gulf War Vets Association. Upon learning that the disease is contagious and that the military is planning to "CLOSE" the records, he decided to take a stand! (If only he could stand! sigh)

In the early days of the 2000 New Year, he made plans to ride his motorized wheelchair from the steps of Moorhead's City Hall to the steps of the Capitol of MN to 'alert' ALL peoples of the Gulf War Syndrome threat! Originally, he was going to make the ride in early May, but as he navigated the streets of St. Paul, to find a viable route, he was hit by a garbage truck and he suffered through months of recuperation.

According to the police reports, Kevin and the truck driver made eye contact just prior to the 'Accident?'.

Undaunted, this true hero picked up his preparation plans and rescheduled his ride. He'd hoped to present the Gulf War Syndrome case to the Governor on Sept. 19, 2000. We say 'hoped' as Minnesota's Governor failed to make himself available for this event!

As Kevin prepared for his ride, it was MAMMA's privilege to play a role in securing an extra battery box, for his chair, and a place for him to hold a fund raiser. As MAMMA stands proudly in support of the Gulf War Vets, we were represented at Kevin's send off on Sept. 9th and we were in St. Paul, MN on the 19th, when he arrived there. The disappointment, that none of Minnesota's U.S. Congressional representatives deemed Kevin's efforts worthy of an appearance, was palpable! To express our concern over this outrage, the following letter was sent to the Fargo Forum, which is Moorhead's local newspaper. [We'd like you to know...this letter never saw print.]

KEVIN'S RIDE....LETTER TO THE EDITOR

The Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, issue of the Fargo, ND Forum included a well written, by newspaper formula standards, piece by John Sundvor. Accompanied by a poignant picture and some accurate quotes, it was consistent. But, was it motivational?

Consider the first verse;
Who: Kevin Shores.
What: traveled 250 miles in a wheelchair.
Where: From Moorhead, MN to the State Capitol.
When: 11 days (Sept. 9, 2000 through Sept. 19, 2000).
Why: to heighten public awareness of Gulf War Syndrome and other ongoing problems with the military.

Add in the second verse;
Who: Kevin Shores and a band of supporters (aka "demonstrators").
What: unmasked disappointment and frustration over unmet challenges to MN Gov. Ventura, and US Senators Wellstone and Grams.
Where: in the realm of 'elected' representation.
When: past, present and future?
Why: demanding military accountablility for numerous atrocities! [Including, but not limited to:

  1. Using experimental vaccines (Gulf War Syndrome).
  2. 'Reckless Endangerment' of personnel, during and after Field Training Exercises.
  3. Agent Orange.
  4. Tests of the Atom Bomb.
  5. Unaccounted for MIAs and POWs.
  6. Failure to redress failed safe guards in the interdisipinary field of "Killology".]

Wait! Though consistent, the article wasn't complete. Isn't the public, who look to the media as its eyes and ears, entitled to "the rest of the story"? A possible third verse?
Who: Kevin Shores and all other informed and questioning Americans.
What: issue a challenge to the MEDIA.
Where: indeed, where are you?
When: ASAP!
Why: because it's no longer just service members being used as "24 hour guinea pigs". Indeed, the military has positioned itself to use all of mankind for physical and mental experimentation! [Including, but not limited to:

  1. 1) Gulf War Syndrome, which is contagious.
  2. Syphilis experiments in KY.
  3. Atom Bomb tests in UT.
  4. Clouding states with Cadmium Sulfide.
  5. Dumping WW2 German chemicals by Port Angeles, WA.
  6. Their role in developing the AIDS virus. 7
  7. Testing Asthma Inhalers with Carbon Tetrachloride (aka Mustard Gas) as a propellant.
  8. Development and implementation of 'killology'.] This must STOP!

Please, accept the challenge! Only informed people are empowered people. Only empowered people can keep America the greatest country in the world!

Most Sincerely,
Jan Beimdiek, Directing CEO of MAMMA
(M+others Aligned for Military & Murder Accountability)

So...IS THAT IT? We are happy to announce that the answer to that question is a resounding NO!!

MAMMA, recently received notification that Kevin, in true heroic fashion, is planning a second awareness ride! Following, are bits and pieces of notes he's sent us, as well as an unedited news release that he's asked us to pass along. Please note that you will be able to access both Kevin's site and the American Gulf War Vets Association (AGWVA) site by clicking the appropriate link below.

Kevin is in our thoughts and our prayers as we wish him God Speed in his endeavor. Hopefully, you too recognize the fact that he will be needing a lot more than just a 'Good Luck!' send off and will consider lending a 'helping hand'. As Kevin would/will say, 'Miigwetch'!

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

Native American Vet to Ride Wheelchair to State Capital AGAIN In Protest of the treatment given to Veterans with Gulf War Illness

  • On May 5th. 2001, one veteran will again ride over 250 miles in his wheelchair, along Hwy. 10 from Moorhead arriving May 17th to the capital of Minnesota, in St. Paul to demand answers about Gulf War Illness. Currently there are 300 thousand vets registered with symptoms of the gulf war illness and thousands have died. Since the Gulf War information has been obtained that proves that there are many unanswered questions and the government is withholding the answers. Unfortunately Politicians Gov. Ventura, and Sen. Grams and Wellstone did not find this issue important enough to constitute their support to his first G.W.I.A.R 2000 (Gulf War Illness Ride) completed on the dates of Sept 9th through the 19th. And now with three months notification he again demands an audience from state and federal politicians, also to show their support by meeting him at the Capital steps at the conclusion G.W.I.A.R 2001.
  • My name is Kevin R. Shores. I am a Native American that served in the Navy from September 1985 though May 1988. During my enlistment, I was given many inoculations, presuming as preventative measures. 'I was stationed on the USS Fox CG-33. We were the first ship, sent into the gulf after a missile hit the USS Stark. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, I returned to Minnesota. Within a couple of years I began to notice health problems, muscle aches, joint stiffness, night sweats, major weight loss (70 Pounds), uncontrollable muscle twitching, chronic fatigue, loss of vision in my left eye and many other symptoms. I went to the Veterans administration hospital to find out what was wrong with me. They labeled it rheumatoid variant disease, which is basically an acute arthritic condition in younger people. I then followed their regiment of medications to assist my condition. However, nothing helped and my condition worsened and within three years I found myself confined to a wheelchair. I can walk with canes but only for short distances.
  • In 1997, I was introduced to the American Gulf War Veterans Association, http://www.gulfwarvets.com/ . With their help, I learned of the cover up that was initiated by our Government. They are with holding important information from me, thousands of other vets and the general public concerning the gulf war.
  • I have not been given adequate answers as to why we, my fellow vets, their families and myself are sick. In search of the answers, I am going to ride my wheelchair from Moorhead, Minnesota to the capital located in St. Paul, where I will demand the truth. This trip is over 250 miles, and from the lesson learned from the first trip I know that I will not be able to accomplish this protest alone, so I am calling on you, my fellow Americans and Veterans to assist me. I will need emotional, spiritual and financial support.

If you feel you can help me please contact me. Email: nindoogitchidaa@aol.com
