Craig Boldman and Pete Matthews wait for things to strike them funny, and then jot them down in little Top Flight spiral-bound memo books. Since their first meeting in 1978, at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in Dover, New Jersey, they have filled hundreds of those memo books.

Collectively, Craig and Pete have written over 20,000 humorous greeting cards, not to mention a ridiculous number of funny cocktail napkins. Their words and drawings have appeared in magazines, books, advertising and comic strips for such companies as Gibson Greetings, Hallmark, Disney and Scholastic Magazines.

Craig writes the Jughead comic book and the Archie syndicated newspaper strip.

Pete is the proud recipient of Oatmeal Studios' "Most Creative Editorial" award.

Boldman is a lifelong resident of the Cincinnati area and Matthews lives near San Diego, California.

CURRENT & NOTABLE: I continue to write the Jughead comic book for Archie Comics, as well as the syndicated Archie newspaper comic strip (The Archie strip appears daily at Archie's own web site). Top comics columnist Tony Isabella has written two very nice reviews of my work on Jughead in his on-line column. You can read the latest one HERE. The previous column, from January of '98, can still be seen HERE.

ESSENTIAL INFO (WITH APOLOGIES TO PLAYBOY MAGAZINE)

NAME: Craig Randall Boldman

BUST: That's personal!

WEIGHT: 7.5 lbs. when born

SIGN: Virgo

BIRTH DATE: August 30, 1955

BIRTHPLACE: Wilmington, Ohio, former home of the Bengals Training Camp. It's also the town where Pete Matthews and I saw a person in a Winnie The Pooh costume dance out of a Sears store with a pot of honey on his head.

AMBITIONS: To one day be lice-free.

TURN-ONS: The hats worn by the girls at "Corn Dog On A Stick."

TURN-OFFS: Those Dr. Seuss-type striped stovepipe hats.

FAVORITE AUTHORS: The poet, Brownie. Not to be confused with Browning.

FAVORITE MOVIES: A Thousand Clowns, Stranger Than Paradise, Limelight. SEE ALSO: CRAIG'S VIDEO REVIEW DU JOUR

FAVORITE PERFORMERS: Bill and Hillary; The Beatles.

FAVORITE FOODS: "Dippin' Dots, the Ice Cream of the Future," and "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter."

FAVORITE SPORTS: I'm very good at balancing things, such as broomsticks, on my finger. You should see it! I can also do that trick where I pile a stack of quarters on by elbow and then snatch them real quick, like that guy did on that episode of "Happy Days."

FAVORITE PLACE: I keep returning to the Pacific Northwest. That's where I found the "Cameo Cafe, Home of the Acre Pancake!" On the other hand, it's also the place where the "International House of Pancakes" bolted the door when they saw us coming. And, it's where we went to that "Denny's" where they shortchanged me on the number of pancakes I was supposed to get, and left me sitting with a spoonful of butter in my hand for twenty minutes. And what we had to do to find an "Elmer's" that served corn pancakes! And then there was that breakfast place with the hair... Don't get me started!

IDEAL WOMAN: Betty Rubble.

IDEAL EVENING: Eating my favorite foods with my ideal woman at my side as we watch my favorite sports waiting for my favorite movie to come on as my favorite performers read to me from books by my favorite authors.

SECRET FANTASY: To be a Smothers Brother.

BIGGEST JOY: Almond.

CURRENT & NOTABLE: I'm busy promoting our new book, "Every Excuse In The Book: 714 Ways to Say 'It's Not My Fault!'." Read all about it HERE. Or, take a look at the interview that appeared in the North County Times HERE. Also, you can read some examples of my greeting card writing at American Greetings' website HERE. They're uncredited, so you'll have to guess which are mine (hint: If they're really, really funny, I bet I wrote 'em).
