Help Stop the United States Navy's bombing of Vieques, Puerto Rico*

View of the Vieques' sea from "Monte David" one of the most polluted places in the island. The pollution has been caused mainly by depleted uranium bullets. The crosses represent all the Viequenses that have died or have been harmed as a consequence of the Navy occupation. (Note: The holes in the reefs are craters caused by the bombings. Corals take thousands of years to grow.)

Note: Vieques' trainings do not help at all in the fight against terrorism. The horrible events of September 2001 do not justify the use of Vieques as a bombing range.

If you don't live in the USA

What can I do if I live outside of the USA?

Many countries in the world practice in Vieques. The US Navy earns millions of dollars annually from the rent payments made by those of its allies who practice in there. The island is used mainly by members of NATO but other American allies also participate in combined maneuvers with the US armed forces. Non NATO countries also rent the island from the Navy for their military practices.

If you live in Europe I encourage you to get in touch with the bureaucrat in charge of your nation's defense. Let your feelings be known to the European Union and its government in Brussels. There are also groups in several countries that are fighting against the US Navy's behavior. Get in touch with them.

If you live somewhere else in the world make sure that your country is not practicing in Vieques. Regardless of where you live you can always write to the American government or to your own embassy in Washington so that they press the issue. You can send an e-mail to President Bush to this address: president@whitehouse.gov or you can visit the White House's web site: www.whitehouse.gov..

By far the best web site you can visit about Vieques - which serves as the "virtual meeting ccenter" for everyone and everything related toVieques, is: www.viequeslibre.org .Vieques libre has links to information about practically anything related to Vieques both pro and against Navy occupation. It also has other resources such as the history of Vieques, who to call, email or fax to protest, a free fax service,contact information, information on videotapes, etc. If you join the Vieques Libre mailing list you will get constant updates about whatis happening in Vieques, both in English and Spanish. Their article archive goes back about two years to just after David Sanes was killed and its probably one of the best resources available to anyone who wants to write a paper. Their include literally every piece of information published about the topic in the last two years.
